      Reds recall Holmberg, Sampson; option Skipworth; Adcock to DL

      The Reds optioned catcher Kyle Skipworth to Double-A Pensacola on Thursday to clear a roster spot for starting pitcher David Holmberg, who is joining the rotation in the wake of the Johnny Cueto trade. They also recalled reliever Keyvius Sampson from Triple-A Louisville to take the roster spot of reliever Nate Adcock, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

      Reds recall C Skipworth, DFA INF Dominguez

      The Reds announced they have recalled catcher Kyle Skipworth from Double-A Pensacola to fill the roster spot vacated with the trade of starter Johnny Cueto, in addition to designating utility man Chris Dominguez for assignment. Skipworth was with the Reds earlier in the season, but did not enter a game before being optioned in April. He was hitting .237 in 42 games at Double-A. Dominguez appeared in 14 games with the Reds, hitting .261 with two homers and five RBIs.

      Reds recall Tucker Barnhart, option Kyle Skipworth

      The Reds recalled Tucker Barnhart and optioned catcher Kyle Skipworth down to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Barnhart batted .313 with three doubles and two RBI in 16 at-bats this season in the minors. Skipworth has yet to appear in a game this season for the Reds.

      Reds add Kyle Skipworth, Josh Smith; option Iglesias, Dominguez

      The Reds selected the contracts of catcher Kyle Skipworth and pitcher Josh Smith Monday, optioning infielder Chris Dominguez and pitcher Raisel Iglesias to Triple-A Louisville. Skipworth will give the Reds added depth at catcher with Devin Mesoraco dealing with hip discomfort. Smith joins the bullpen and is on the verge of making his major-league debut after going 10-7 with a 4.70 ERA and 123:66 K:BB ratio in 159 innings with Triple-A Louisville.

      Reds announce cuts Monday, release veteran Paul Maholm

      The Reds made another rounds of cuts Monday, which included the release of veteran pitcher Paul Maholm, who was competing for a spot on the pitching staff this spring. Other moves Monday included optioning pitcher Pedro Villarreal to Triple-A Louisville, as well as reassigning pitcher Nate Adock, infielder Ivan De Jesus Jr., infielder Irving Falu and catcher Kyle Skipworth to minor-league camp.
