      Astros' Edwar Cabrera: Signs minor league contract with Astros on Friday

      Cabrera signed a minor league contract with the Astros on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Cabrera spent 2015 in the Rangers organization splitting time between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. His numbers aren't outstanding (3.68 ERA, 1.21 WHIP in 71 innings in Double-A), but he'll provide some organizational depth for the Astros.

Cabrera is expected to have another session Tuesday and could pitch in an extended spring training game, according to MLB.com.Cabrera, who hoped to compete for a rotation spot but was placed on the DL early in spring training with a left shoulder impingement, could start a minor-league rehab assignment after an extended spring training appearance.       Rockies pitcher Edwar Cabrera was placed on the 60-day DL with a shoulder impingement Thursday, making room for new acquisition Reid Brignac on the roster. According to the Denver Post, Cabrerea had been dealing with an illness prior to camp and "was a couple weeks behind" the other pitchers before the injury came up.
