Jean-Charles was waived Saturday by the Spurs, Michael C. Wright of ESPN.com reports. After selecting Jean-Charles in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft, the Spurs finally brought the forward over from France this summer and gave him a chance to compete for a roster spot. The 22-year-old didn't do much with the opportunity, however, scoring six points and shooting 3-for-8 from the floor over 45 total preseason minutes. Once he clears waivers, Jean-Charles expected to sign with the Spurs' D-League affiliate in Austin.
Updating a previous report: Jean-Charles will come off the bench for Wednesday's preseason game against the Magic, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports. Jean-Charles was originally reported as a starter in the Spurs' frontcourt Wednesday, but it appears Pau Gasol is playing and will run with the first team unit. With that said, Jean-Charles could see his minutes restricted again while coming off the bench considering he's recorded a total of just 18 minutes over his first two preseason outings.
Jean-Charles is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's matchup with the Magic, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports. Jean-Charles has seen action in just two preseason games thus far, notching a total of 18 minutes, while recording four points, five rebounds and two assists. Coach Gregg Popovich wants to get a better look at the 22-year-old rookie, so he'll move into the starting lineup and could see a bump in minutes after seeing his playing time heavily restricted thus far during the preseason schedule.
