During a press conference to announce the contract, Butler expressed his gratitude for the deal, saying, "Chicago is where I wanted to be. I love playing here. I love the city." Butler appeared in 65 games (all starts) for Chicago and averaged a team-high 20.0 ppg (15th in the NBA), 5.8 rpg, 3.3 apg and 1.75 spg in a league-high 38.7 mpg. He was named the NBA's Most Improved Player.
