Jazz's Trey Burke: Exits with back spasms

Burke is dealing with back spasms and will not return to Wednesday's game against the Clippers. Burke went scoreless in eight first-half minutes before being forced from the contest. He will have a few days to rest and recover before Utah's next game Saturday against New Orleans.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Scores 16 off the bench Friday

Burke scored 16 points (7-12 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-4 FT) with four assists in 22 minutes off the bench during Friday's loss to the Magic. On a night when most of Utah's starters were struggling right from the opening tip, Burke supplied the team with a little life. He's become the go-to scorer on the second unit for the Jazz, and Burke is now averaging 15.2 points, 2.2 boards, 2.0 threes and 1.0 steals in 24.5 minutes through six November games.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Scores 16 points in Tuesday's loss

Burke scored 16 points (6-11 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT) with three assists and a steal over 24 minutes in Tuesday's 118-114 loss to the Cavaliers. Burke remained hot from distance and has now hit 10-of-16 three-pointers over his last three contests. He outperformed starting point guard Raul Neto again, so the fact that he's coming off the bench hasn't affected his production.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Posts 12-point night off the bench Thursday

Burke poured in 12 points (4-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, an assist, and a steal over 20 minutes in Thursday's 96-84 victory over the Nuggets. That's four consecutive double-digit scoring efforts off the bench for the third-year pro, who outpaced starting point guard Raul Neto in playing time by seven minutes. Burke has actually spent more time on the floor than Neto in each game except the opener, so the traditional definitions of starter and reserve have not applied to the duo thus far. As long as Burke continues to receive the 20-plus minutes he's gotten on a consistent basis, he appears to be a solid bet for strong scoring and assist numbers relative to his playing time each night.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Comes off bench Wednesday against Pistons

Burke will come off the bench for the Jazz in their opener against the Pistons, Jody Geneessy of the Deseret News reports. Despite coming off the bench, Burke has a good chance of seeing plenty of minutes, and could get more scoring opportunities while not playing alongside other main scorers like Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors. The Jazz have decided to start Raul Neto at point guard instead of Burke.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Not confirmed to start Wednesday

Burke has not been confirmed as the starter for Wednesday's game against Detroit, Andy Larsen of KSL TV reports. Burke hasn't proven himself as the starting point guard as he's battled with Raul Neto since Dante Exum's ACL tear in the beginning of August. The Michigan product played 8.2 minutes more per game than Neto in five preseason contests, but coach Quin Snyder has not decided who gets the start Wednesday against Detroit. This battle between Burke and Neto could continue through the regular season.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Drops 20 on Thunder

Burke tallied 20 points (7-15 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), three rebounds, four assists and three steals in a loss to the Thunder on Tuesday. He also didst commit a turnover in his 29 minutes. Burke continues to impress this preseason and he's looking more and more like a potential breakout. With Dante Exum (torn ACL) out for the season, Burke should play most of the minutes at the point guard position and that alone makes him valuable. The shooting percentage can be ugly at times, but his scoring and assisting numbers should justify taking a late flier on him in drafts.

Jazz's Trey Burke: Scores 22 against Portland

Burke was hot on Sunday, scoring 22 points (9-12 FG, 4-5 3 Pt) and recording one rebound, one assist and three steals in a loss to Portland. Burke has quite the opportunity here in Utah and he is a definite breakout candidate. Not only did he show amazing scoring ability at Utah in college, he has very little point guard competition in Utah with the injury to Dante Exum. He's more of a scoring-guard than a passing-guard, but still presents nice sleeper value late in drafts this season.

Jazz exercise club option on PG Trey Burke

Trey Burke's team option for the 2016-17 season was picked up by the Jazz on Saturday, the team's official site reports. The Jazz exercised options on Burke, Rudy Gobert, Dante Exum (knee), and Rodney Hood, keeping their young core intact. Burke is set to start at point guard this season after Exum tore his ACL while playing with the Australian National Team in early August. In three preseason games to date, Burke has averaged 11 points (on 38 percent shooting), 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 three-pointers, and 0.7 steals in 24 minutes.

Jazz G Trey Burke scores 15 points in Tuesday's preseason win

Jazz guard Trey Burke scored 15 points (6-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt) and handed out five assists over 27 minutes during Tuesday's preseason win over the Lakers. Though Dante Exum's season-ending ACL tear is believed to put Burke in position to hang on to the starting job, his role was called into some question after Brazilian import Raul Neto shined both defensively and as a distributor in the preseason opener. However, Burke probably performed better of the two players on Tuesday night, and offers more appeal from a fantasy perspective due to his ability to put up points. Burke hasn't been particularly efficient over his two seasons in the NBA with a 37.4 shooting mark from the field, but if he can show even modest growth in that regard in 2015-16, he may be able to hold off Neto for minutes.
