Stacy Lewis tied the course record on Thursday at the 2016 Rio Olympics set last week by Marcus Fraser in Round 1 and Matt Kuchar in Round 4 of the men's competition.

Kuchar shot his to snag a bronze medal on Sunday last week. Lewis' 63 on Thursday was to get into the final group on Friday for Round 3 on the women's side. She's in second place after 36 holes, one behind leader Inbee Park.

"I have a course record here, and to put my name on that ... and just to being atop of the leaderboard at the Olympics," said Lewis. "It's something that I think now, every kid is going to dream of doing. It's been such a cool week so far, and the highlight for me was just getting to see the guys up there on the podium on 18 on Sunday getting their medals and just thinking about how cool that would be to be in their shoes and be doing that on Saturday. It's definitely a motivating factor but I've had a great week and we're enjoying it so far."

Lewis actually made a bogey and a double bogey en route to the 8-under 63. She had 11 birdies and just five pars on the day including birdies in six of her final right holes to shoot up the leaderboard. According to Steve DiMeglio, nobody really saw this coming before the round started.

She was mad that her swing was giving her fits. Frustrated that she hadn't been able to fix the problems for a few days now. And she was grumpy, her husband said, but in a good way because that makes her bear down.

But Lewis let the big moment of playing in the Olympics take over.

"I was excited from the get‑go with the announcement of the Olympics," said Lewis after the record-tying score. "There are probably a lot of reasons why we shouldn't have come and shouldn't have done this, whether it was Zika or other issues. I just did my homework and nobody gave me a good reason why I shouldn't come. There'd have to be something seriously wrong with me to not come play in the Olympics. This has been so cool. Just a different feel about it. Feels like a different tournament."

It is. They give out medals at the end, and Lewis is in prime position to receive one. The tournament, of course, is far from over as there are 21 players within six of the lead, but you have to like where Lewis sits after 36 holes. I would venture to say if she makes 11 more birdies total over the next two days, she'll be receiving some of that hardware Matt Kuchar wore last Sunday.
