According to a report out of the Philippines, the Dustin Johnson-Rory McIlroy charity match which was scheduled for Nov. 29 has been canceled. Here is ABS-CBN News.

Businessman Salvador "Buddy" Zamora and his event organizers announced Thursday that the event, "Dustin vs. Rory: Battle for a Cause," has been cancelled, citing a breach of contract "on the part of Creative Artists Agency." CAA was contracted by Zamora to serve as the liaison between the event organizers and the two golfers.

"We were very excited to bring this event to the Philippines," Zamora said in a statement. "It would have been the start of bigger things for Philippine golf. However, circumstances beyond our control caused this cancellation," he added.

This is unfortunate. I was looking forward to viewing two of the biggest drivers in the world go at it in the middle of the night from the United States. Two different opponents have fallen through for McIlroy as this was supposed to be a one-on-one matchup against Jason Day before Day declined to rest his injuries. According to the Associated Press, the match was going to raise money for typhoon victims.

Sean O'Flaherty, who manages McIlroy, said the event would include a gala dinner and an auction on Nov. 28, which features bidding to be caddies for Johnson and McIlroy over nine holes, along with other memorabilia. He said proceeds would go mainly toward relief efforts from typhoons.

So now McIlroy will likely be done for 2016 after the World Tour Championship this week in Dubai. He is planning a monstrous schedule leading up to the 2017 Masters. Johnson on the other hand will play in Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge event in the Bahamas the first week in December before shutting it down for the year.
