Jason Day is sick again. This is not a scheduled post. The oft-ill Day announced that he would miss next week’s WGC-Mexico Championship with the flu and a double ear infection.
Day has cited flu-like symptoms as well as a variety of other illnesses and injuries over the past few years. He had vertigo at the 2015 U.S. Open, pulled out of the 2016 Tour Championship with a back injury and has often said in front of big tournaments that he is struggling with a variety of maladies.

“I’m truly disappointed to announce that I won’t be able to play,” Day said in a statement. “I have a double ear infection and the flu, which precludes me from preparing for and playing in the tournament. I have heard great things about the Mexico Championship and the golf course. I want to thank the Salinas family for their support of the event. I look forward to teeing it up there next year.”
This is unfortunate because next week’s tournament was supposed to include all 50 of the top 50 golfers in the Official World Golf Rankings. There is no cut, and every player in the field will make money no matter what he shoots.
