One down. The first day of the best week on the golf calendar is complete, and it was largely uneventful. Rain toyed with the emotions of patrons all over the course before they were eventually removed for good midway through Monday afternoon.

Here are six things to know from Monday at the Masters.

1. Tornado watch: Play was bumpy on Monday as golfers tried to get practice rounds in and patrons tried to enjoy them. After the course was cleared once and everyone was brought back out, it was then cleared for good later on.

It likely won’t affect the actual event, but if it rains any more, we all know who benefits the most.

2. Bubba Watson changes balls: The two-time champion is probably either going to play a pink or green ball during the tournament. He is sponsored by Volvik. “It’s really about the way I’m feeling,” Watson told the Augusta Chronicle. “Whichever is closest to me to grab, which one I see in my locker. It’s not Masters green. There are other ball companies making that color green, so it’s not like it’s just a special one just for the Masters.”

3. Rory McIlroy, Jason Day outfits revealed: The Nike staffers will have a nice array of colors, and I can’t help but think this Sunday red was a purposeful choice for McIlroy. A green jacket on a red shirt? Where have I seen that before?

4. Gary Player walks Magnolia Lane: After giving my man Brendan Porath an astounding interview in which they discussed Porath’s weight, Player walked up Magnolia Lane on Monday to prove that at the age of 81 he’s as spry as ever.

5. Flyover view of course: This is just ... spectacular.

6. Lexi Thompson was a hot topic: Several pros including Rickie Fowler weighed in on Thompson’s controversy from Sunday.

“I think we’ve seen some stuff in the past year that is not making the game look very good at all,” said Fowler. There’s no other sport where people can call or e‑mail in or contact officials regarding an issue. I mean, there’s plenty of circumstances in plenty of other sports where a call could go a completely different way, and these decisions are left up to officials. There’s not people sitting at home dictating this or, you know, in this case, having a lot of effect on the outcome of a major.  It’s not just another tournament.

“It’s somewhat like when you look at if something were to come up Monday after the tournament, the tournament’s done.  So where do things close off? If something happened Thursday in the tournament, something were to come up on Sunday, then you go back and enforce a penalty ... it just goes back to, there shouldn’t be anyone outside of the officials being able to make this call.”

Well said.
