Patrick Reed has plenty of motivation this week at The Barclays, as he is among those making a final push for a Ryder Cup spot. Reed is making his move in impressive fashion through two rounds at Bethpage Black in New York as he's 8 under after a Friday 68 moved him two clear of Emiliano Grillo and Rickie Fowler in second place.

Reed came into the week holding onto the eighth and final automatic Ryder Cup slot, needing to fend off the likes of J.B. Holmes, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar. So far, so good for Reed, who is in great position heading into the weekend to lock up that spot, and also vault up the FedEx Cup standings in the process.

Reed isn't the only one taking advantage of The Barclays as a spot to make a late Ryder Cup charge. Rickie Fowler, who entered the week 12th in Ryder Cup points, has made only one bogey at the very difficult Black course at Bethpage State Park through two days to move into T2. Making up the points needed to get an automatic slot won't happen for Fowler, but he can use this weekend to state his case for a captain's pick by Davis Love III.

J.B. Holmes is also in solid position at 3 under in T10, as he tries to track down the eighth spot in the rankings. Watson and Kuchar are going in the opposite direction, struggling at 3 over and 2 over respectively, just barely making it inside the cut line.

Jordan Spieth's Ryder Cup spot is locked in, but he's looking to close his season strong and earn a second straight FedEx Cup title. Spieth came out hot on Friday, shooting a 4-under 67 and climbing into T5 along with Jason Day and others, making for a very strong leaderboard heading into the weekend.
