Brandt Snedeker posted a 6-under 66 on Saturday to vault to the top of the leaderboard at the RBC Canadian Open at 9 under, one stroke ahead of Dustin Johnson and Canadian amateur Jared du Toit.

Snedeker, the 2013 RBC Canadian Open champion excelled in the firm, fast conditions players faced on Saturday on a course that he's extremely comfortable on. He opened his round with a run of five straight birdies from No. 2 to No. 6 and closed his round with an eagle on the par-5 18th to take the lead alone.

While Snedeker was able to score well on Saturday, Dustin Johnson could not open up a lead and distance himself from the field despite being the 36-hole leader. For the second straight day, Johnson posted a solid 1-under 71, but bogeys on 14 and 15 kept him from grabbing either a share or taking the lead outright after 54 holes.

Even though Snedeker and Johnson are two of the stars in the field, the fan favorite at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario is Jared du Toit, the Canadian amateur that has yet to fade away and will play in the final pairing on Sunday with Snedeker.

Du Toit, a member of the Arizona State golf team that also featured standout Jon Rahm last season, is looking to become the first Canadian to win the country's national championship since Pat Fletcher in 1954. The young Canadian thrilled the crowd at Glen Abbey on Saturday with this long eagle putt on the 18th to get him into the final group on Sunday.

Considering the timing of the event in the lone week between the Open Championship and the PGA Championship, the RBC Canadian Open has some intriguing storylines going into Sunday, headlined by Du Toit. Winning would be a phenomenal story, but he'll have to defeat Snedeker -- who loves playing at Glen Abbey -- and the hottest golfer on the planet in Dustin Johnson, who is looking for his third win in his last four starts.
