Add Ben Roethlisberger to the list. It's a long, still-growing rolodex of athletes in other sports who want their children to play golf in lieu of the sport they are currently starring in. Some have noted concussions as a reason. Some just think football is not as safe as it was when they were growing up. Roethlisberger did not mention either reason to Dan Patrick on his radio show recently. He simply stated that if he had to choose for his children, he would choose golf.

"If they want to [play football, that's fine]," Roethlisberger told Patrick. "I'm not going to tell them they can't. I will encourage my kids to do whatever they want to do and love to do, and I will help them with whatever it is. Hopefully it's golf, though."

Roethlisberger reportedly carries a sub-10 handicap and has played in a variety of PGA Tour pro ams. He also tees it up with Michael Jordan and Justin Timberlake from time to time. The golf talk comes at the 5-minute mark below.
