Tiger Woods has had a, shall we say, inauspicious start to the 2014 season. Certainly the sample size is minute, but he currently sits in second-to-last place in the FedEx Cup standings with a microscopic 0.79 point total.
No matter, as Woods has a chance to erase the memory of a horrific +6 finish (and missed 54-hole cut) at the Farmers Insurance Open starting Thursday in Florida. And if Wednesday's round in the pro-am is any indication, according to Woods, this outing will be much different than his last.
"It feels good," Woods told reporters after his round Wednesday. "I was pleasantly surprised how well I was hitting it today."
Woods also insisted that there's an extra layer of comfort playing near his home in Jupiter, Fla., given that he's able to go back to familiar surroundings.
"I'm going home to my own remote, my own bed, and those are things that we don't get a chance to do very often," Woods said. "Most sports you spend half the year on the road and half the year at home. Most golfers spend pretty much their entire career on the road."
And with the Masters just over a month away, Woods -- and the rest of the stacked field at the Honda -- will be looking to round into major championship shape. But make no mistake: Woods is in the field this week to win.
"If I hit it great and win, if I slap it all over the place and win, I win," Woods said. "That's the intent."
