Chris Stroud was in a predicament. Brian Stuard had just hit a shot over the green on the par-4 eighth hole that seemed to leave Stroud a tough downhill chip or putt with his third shot. Then ... magic happened. Stuard's ball improbably dislodged and rolled onto the putting surface.

From there he went on to make one of the weirdest birdies in recent memory.

A rules official was brought out, and Stroud confirmed that he did not touch the ball or the ground surrounding it. Because of that the ball was played from its eventual resting place on the green.

Stroud and Stuard shot a terrific 4-under 68 in Round 1 of the team event, which was alternate shot format. They are moving up the leaderboard in Round 2.
