Before this week, Bernd Wiesberger's most famous moment might have come at the 2014 PGA Championship when he somehow got himself into the final pairing with Rory McIlroy. He went on to shoot a 3-over 74 and finished outside the top 10, but at least he got a front-row seat for McIlroy's fourth major championship.

This week at the Maybank Championship, Wiesberger made a European Tour record nine straight birdies en route to a second-round 63. Nine in a row. Half his card was straight red!

"I hit really good shots and I just felt calm out there," said Wiesberger. "It felt kind of natural, I hit pretty good shots and really only holed two long ones ... I just hit them pretty close and felt like I had a good idea of what the ball was going to do on the green today again, which was nice."

Wiesberger's 63 was impressive, no doubt, but he followed it with a 73 in the third round, and now he's five back of leader (and reigning Masters champ) Danny Willett. The leader is 16 under with David Lipsky three back and Alexander Levy four back. Wiesberger is in a big group at 11 under.

"I'm not sure what will win it to be honest, depends on if we pitch up and it's flat calm," said Willett. "I think there's a few guys that can go low if it's windy like this. One or two under par is a good knock out there so I think it all depends on the weather tomorrow."

Willett has shot rounds of 66-67-67 this week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and it feels like his game is finally finding some form after a post-Augusta swoon that has lasted nearly a year.

"I've been working hard so it's nice to see it on the course," said Willett earlier in the week.

This time last year Willett won the Dubai Desert Classic (which was played last week) in his run up to the Masters (where he took a wild tournament over Jordan Spieth and Lee Westwood). I don't expect a repeat there, but bagging his first win in nearly a year this week in Malaysia is looking like it's going to happen.
