According to MLB.com, the 39-year-old Jones will have surgery Monday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He missed two weeks last season when he had the same surgery on his right knee. Jones said he hoped to return by the team's home-opener on April 13 against Milwaukee.

Jones hurt his knee while running in the outfield last Thursday -- about an hour before he announced he would retire at the end of the season.

Martin Prado will take his place in the lineup, with Eric Hinske and Matt Diaz platooning in left field to take Prado's place.
