Saturday night in Pensacola, the Double-A Pensacola BlueWahoos (Reds) beat the Birmingham Barons (White Sox) by the score of 5-4 (box score). Pensacola came back from a 4-2 deficit to win.

Following the game BlueWahoos outfielder Bryson Smith brought his longtime girlfriend Raphaelle Lombardo out to his center field position, where he dropped to one knee and proposed. She said yes, of course. Check it out (photo via Pensacola BlueWahoos on Twitter):

Smith told MiLB.com's Tyler Maun he has had the ring since February, but between spring training and regular season travel, it's been tough to plan the proposal. On Saturday, things finally lined up, so Smith popped the question on the field. From Maun:

"I walked over to her and tried to get her on the field and she was like, 'No, I'm not getting on the field. What's wrong? Why do I need to get on the field?' I'm like, 'Oh, God, nothing's panning out,'" he said. "Finally, I got her out on the field and that whole speech I had prepared, I couldn't tell you if I said one word of it. I went with the flow of it. Thank God, I wasn't mic'd up because there's no telling what I said."

That's pretty awesome. Congrats to the happy couple. Over 5,000 people were at the game and Maun says many of those fans were still in the ballpark during the proposal.

I imagine holding on to the ring since February and having to wait to pop the question was agonizing for Smith. That's on top of the usual pre-proposal jitters.
