Brandon Inge could rejoin the Athletics on Saturday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser.

Even though the deadline for playoff eligibility is Friday, Inge would still be eligible to be put on the playoff roster. Slusser explains that in order to be eligible for the playoff roster, players need to be in the team’s system by Aug. 31. Provided the player meets that deadline, they have to be on the 25-man roster, the disabled list, the bereavement list or the suspended list. Since Inge is currently on the disabled list, he is eligible for the postseason.

There is an exception to the rule that the A’s might be able to use to their advantage. If a team has players on the 60-day disabled list, those players can be replaced by anyone from the team’s 40-man roster. The Athletics currently have four players on their 60-day disabled list. Because of this rule, the team can make Jemile Weeks eligible for the postseason even if he’s not called up until September. Slusser suggests they could do the same for pitcher Dan Straily and outfielder Collin Cowgill.
