Jose Canseco allowed a home run off his head on this date in 1993. YouTube screen grab

On this date in 1993, one of the most incredible bloopers in baseball history happened. It was 23 years ago that Indians infielder Carlos Martinez lifted a fly ball to right field that hit Rangers outfielder Jose Canseco in the head and hopped over the wall for a home run.

Here's the video, which never fails to make me laugh:

Amazing. I'll never get tired of seeing that highlight. Canseco hasn't forgotten about it either:

The play was ruled a home run but Canseco insists it should be a four-base error. He sold the cap he wore during that play at an auction a few years back.

The play was one of the very first entries into our Bobblehead Project a few years back:

When you make a play that gets turned into a bobblehead, you know you've done something special. People will be watching Canseco's home run header pretty much until the end of time.
