Here's something you don't see ... well, ever.

During the seventh inning of Thursday's game between the Orioles and Astros (HOU 4, BAL 2), Jake Marisnick hit a line drive down the right-field line. The ball took a funny hop off the wall, and Marisnick tried to capitalize by heading for third base. He was thrown out, however, and that was that.

Or so it seemed at the time, anyway. The play was then reviewed, and Marisnick was awarded second base.

The reason? The ball hadn't ricocheted off the wall; rather, it had hit off a fan before returning to the playing field. Thus, the umpires deemed the play a ground-rule double.

Ultimately, Marisnick wouldn't come around to score. But still, just when you think you've seen it all, baseball throws you a curveball -- or hits you a well-struck, well-placed line drive.
