  • Reds' Logan Morrison: Joins Reds on minors deal

Morrison signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Friday. Morrison has played 997 games at the big-league level and is a slightly above-average hitter for his career, as his .238/.323/.425 line is good for a 105 wRC+. It's been several years since he was particularly useful, however, as he's hit just .183/.271/.365 in 133 games since the start of the 2018 season. He'll make at least one more attempt to get back to the majors and will look to impress at Triple-A Louisville, but expectations should be modest even if he does eventually earn a call-up.

  • Logan Morrison: Returns to free agency

Morrison rejected an outright assignment from the Brewers and elected free agency Friday. The veteran slugger spent the first couple weeks of the season on the active roster, but he was designated for assignment earlier in the week after going 3-for-25 with one homer and eight strikeouts in nine games. Morrison will hope to secure another major-league opportunity after failing to stick with the Brewers.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Designated for assignment

Morrison was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Monday. Morrison started six of the Brewers' first 13 games but failed to distinguish himself, hitting .120/.214/.280 over 28 plate appearances. He's unlikely to be a particularly appealing candidate on the waiver wire, as he's a 32-year-old first baseman who owns a .183/.271/.365 slash line over the last three seasons. Luis Urias (illness) was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Cracks first homer

Morrison went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Reds. This was a game to forget for Milwaukee, though Morrison's homer off Trevor Bauer -- his first of the year -- qualifies as a bright spot. He was off to a miserable start with two hits and zero walks in his first six games. Ryan Braun (finger) is due back after the minimum, but Morrison will remain in the mix for starts at first base and DH against right-handed pitching.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Not in lineup for home opener

Morrison isn't in the lineup Monday against the White Sox. Morrison could see some extra time as the designated hitter after Ryan Braun (finger) was placed on the injured list and Lorenzo Cain opted out, but he'll play a bench role Monday. Ryon Healy will serve as the designated hitter and lead off in the series opener.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Contract selected

Morrison's contract was officially selected by the Brewers on Tuesday. The move confirms reports from over the weekend that Morrison had made the team's Opening Day roster. He's unlikely to be much more than a depth option at first base and designated hitter this season, as he's produced an above-average batting line in just one of his last five seasons.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Makes Opening Day roster

Morrison has made the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Robert Murray of TheScore.com reports. He has impressed from Day 1 with Milwaukee, so this is not a surprise. With Ryan Braun (general soreness) questionable for Opening Day, Morrison could see starts at designated hitter early in the season while getting occassional starts at first base over Justin Smoak. The 32-year-old veteran hit .300/.364/.600 with three home runs and 10 strikeouts in 33 plate appearances this spring and has been impressing thus far in summer camp. He is not officially on the 40-man roster yet, but the Brewers have multiple players on the COVID-19 injured list, which will free up a couple spots for players like Morrison.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Big leagues or bust

Morrison will elect free agency if he does not earn a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Morrison's contract permits him to seek opportunities elsewhere if he does not break camp with a spot on the Brewers' big-league roster, and he made it clear he will do just that. Morrison struggled mightily the past couple seasons, but he was making a good case for a spot when play was halted, going 9-for-30 (.300) with three home runs and seven RBI over 12 games this spring.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Homers in spring game

Morrison went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's spring game against the Cubs. Morrison is off to a good start this spring, reaching base six times over his first 13 plate appearances, but he is currently on the outside looking in at a roster spot after signing a minor-league deal over the offseason.

  • Brewers' Logan Morrison: Headed to Brewers

Morrison signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Thursday, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports. Morrison appeared in just 29 games for the Phillies last season, but the Brewers are hoping he'll be able to rediscover his power he had in 2017, when he hit 38 home runs for the Rays. The report doesn't explicitly say so, but Morrison should get the chance to compete in spring training as a non-roster invitee.

  • Phillies' Logan Morrison: Officially promoted

Morrison had his contract purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. As expected, Morrison will join the Phillies ahead of Wednesday's game against the Cubs after putting together a .308/.369/.640 slash line with 18 home runs in 61 games at Triple-A. With Rhys Hoskins entrenched at first base, the veteran slugger figures to serve as a left-handed bench bat for the Phillies. Jake Arrieta (elbow) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Phillies' Logan Morrison: Set to join Phillies

Morrison will have his contract selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Rhys Hoskins is locked in at first base for the Phillies, so Morrison figures to serve as a left-handed bat off the bench for Philadelphia. The veteran slugger struggled across 95 games with the Twins last season (.186/.276/.368) but owns an impressive .308/.369/.640 triple-slash with 18 home runs in 61 games at Triple-A this season.

  • Phillies' Logan Morrison: Signs minor-league deal

Morrison signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Saturday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Morrison hit .289/.341/.658 with 15 homers in 43 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees system before opting out of his deal. He could eventually serve as a bench bat for the Phillies but is unlikely to be anything more than that unless Rhys Hoskins gets hurt.

  • Logan Morrison: Opts out of contract

Morrison opted out of his minor-league contract with the Yankees on Tuesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Morrison's contract allowed him to opt out of his deal if he wasn't on the big-league roster on July 1. Luke Voit hit the injured list with an abdominal strain Tuesday, but the Yankees will call on Mike Ford instead of Morrison. The veteran hit a poor .186/.276/.368 in 95 games for the Twins last season, but his .289/.341/658 line for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year could be enough to earn him a roster spot somewhere other than New York.

  • Yankees' Logan Morrison: Playing regularly at Triple-A

Morrison (hip) debuted at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 8 and has appeared in four games, going 2-for-14 with two runs and no RBI. Morrison came to terms on a minor-league deal with the Yankees back on April 19, but he required additional time to build up at extended spring training while he worked back from offseason hip surgery. With appearances in four consecutive days, Morrison looks like he's back to full strength, but he'll likely need to improve his numbers before garnering serious consideration for a promotion to the big club. The Yankees still have multiple key hitters on the injured list, but the recent returns of Aaron Hicks, Clint Frazier and Miguel Andujar probably hurt Morrison's chances of earning a callup anytime soon.

  • Yankees' Logan Morrison: Reaches deal with Yankees

Morrison (hip) signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees on Friday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. The Yankees have been decimated by injuries and could use any healthy and effective bat, but there's some question whether Morrison fits either of those categories. The veteran's 2018 campaign was cut short by season-ending hip surgery in August, and he failed to land with a team during spring training, so it's unclear how soon he'll be ready to play. There's no guarantee he'll provide much value if healthy, as he hit just .186/.276/.368 in 95 games for the Twins last season.

  • Logan Morrison: Option declined by Twins

Morrison's (hip) 2019 club option was not picked up by the Twins on Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. After bashing 38 homers in 2017, Morrison put together a disappointing 2018 campaign with the Twins, slashing just .186/.276/.368 with 15 homers in 95 games before undergoing season-ending hip surgery in August. Given Morrison's struggles -- and his uncertain status heading into spring training -- Minnesota decided to pay his $1 million buyout rather than exercise his $8 million option for 2019.

  • Twins' Logan Morrison: Transferred to 60-day DL

Morrison (hip) was moved to the 60-day disabled list on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Morrison has already been ruled out for the season after undergoing hip surgery, so the move has no effect on his timeline. It clears a roster spot for the Twins to purchase the contract of Gregorio Petit.

  • Twins' Logan Morrison: Season ended by left hip impingement

Morrison was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip impingement, Dan Hayes of The Athletic Minnesota reports. The club provided clarity on LoMo's actual physical hindrance that will require season-ending surgery, and recovery could take 4-8 months, according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. As it continues its rebuild, Minnesota will be hard-pressed to pick up Morrison's $8 million option for 2019 and will instead probably buy him out for $1 million.

  • Twins' Logan Morrison: Will undergo season-ending hip surgery

Morrison was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday and will have season-ending surgery on his left hip, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The first baseman, who was deactivated after Saturday's game, concludes the 2018 campaign with a woeful .186/.276/.368 line, despite 15 homers, 39 RBI and 41 runs scored in 359 plate appearances. Given the sudden nature of the move, the club probably will release more details on the injury soon. Morrison has an $8 million club option for 2019, but that's almost certain to be declined and the team will likely elect a $1 million buyout.
