Andrew Bailey: Announces retirement Monday
Bailey (shoulder) announced his retirement from playing professional baseball Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
A recurring shoulder issue kept Bailey from being active for much of the 2017 season, as he appeared in just four games (4.0 innings) with the Angels. While his playing career has come to an end, Bailey will remain active in the sport as he's joining the Angels' coaching staff. Bailey will end his eight-season career with a 3.12 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 265 games (274.1 innings).

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Transferred to 60-day disabled list
Bailey (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.
The Angels needed to clear a roster spot after acquiring Brandon Phillips and did so by transferring Bailey over to the 60-day DL. Bailey, who was ruled out for the season Tuesday, battled shoulder issues throughout the 2017 season and only threw four innings in the majors.

Bailey (shoulder) has officially been ruled out for the remainder of 2017, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
This is an unfortunate development for Bailey, as the 33-year-old will end his season early after registering just four major-league innings due to a slew of shoulder issues. He's a free agent after this season, so Bailey will focus on getting healthy in an attempt to return to the majors in 2018.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Returns to disabled list
Bailey was placed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury once again Monday night, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Bailey was activated just nine days ago and made just one appearance before aggravating the shoulder injury that had limited him to just three appearances in April. The former closer has dealt with injuries over the last half decade, and particularly given the myriad setbacks he's encountered in 2017 alone, it's hard to imagine him returning to the Angels' bullpen this season.

Bailey made his first appearance since being activated off the 60-day DL, tossing a scoreless inning in a loss to the Nationals on Tuesday.
Bailey has missed four months with shoulder inflammation, but he will look to re-establish himself in the final quarter of the season. The Angels' current closing situation is in turmoil, so there is potential for the former closer (95 career saves) to enter the mix at some point. The 33-year-old will first have to prove that he can handle himself in a middle-relief role -- and more importantly, stay healthy -- before getting serious consideration for save opportunities.

It's been a long road back for Bailey -- he endured several setbacks in his recovery -- but he has returned to the active roster following a four-month absence. The Angels' ninth-inning situation is unsettled at the moment, and Bailey did save six games for Anaheim down the stretch last year, but it's difficult to imagine he will be in the mix to close right away.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Activation likely over weekend
Bailey (shoulder) is traveling with the team for this weekend's series against the Mariners and could be activated as soon as Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
After suffering a number of setbacks on his rehab, it looks like Bailey is finally ready to rejoin the Angels bullpen. Cam Bedrosian and Bud Norris will likely still be the first option for saves, but should either or both struggle, Bailey could work his way into the ninth-inning conversation. That said, Bailey has thrown just three innings this season and allowed a 5.36 ERA over 43.2 innings in 2016, so he doesn't exactly scream reliable at this point.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Halts rehab assignment
Bailey (shoulder) has been removed from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
It appears to be a second setback for Bailey in what has become a nightmare rehabilitation, who will head back to southern California in hopes of finding the source of the issue. The right-handed reliever has already been out since April while dealing with shoulder inflammation, and could now find his season in jeopardy following the latest delay.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Rehabbing at Triple-A
Bailey (shoulder) made a rehab appearance with Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, giving up a solo home run and striking out a batter in one inning.
It was the second rehab outing for Bailey, after he previously pitched an inning for the Angels' rookie-level Arizona League club July 15. Considered a candidate to close for the Angels heading into spring training, Bailey will probably have to settle for middle-relief duty as a result of the long layoff once he's eventually activated from the 60-day disabled list. He'll likely need a few more rehab appearances before being reinstated.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Will resume throwing shortly
Bailey (shoulder) is scheduled to resume throwing in the next few days, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
The veteran reliever has been sidelined for nearly two months with shoulder inflammation. He is eligible to come off the 60-day DL in the next week, so if his rehab goes as planned, he could return shortly after the required 60 days. With Bud Norris experiencing success as the Angels' closer, Bailey should slot in as a middle reliever.

The Angels made the signing of Doug Fister official on Saturday, which led to Bailey being moved to the 60-day DL to clear a 40-man roster spot. Bailey recently suffered a setback during a bullpen session and is being brought along slowly as a result. As it stands, the earliest Bailey will be able to return is in mid-June, but until he's able to string together bullpen sessions with no discomfort, it's difficult to pinpoint when he'll be able to rejoin the Angels.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Taking it slow after setback
Bailey (shoulder) will "progress as tolerated" after examinations found no new injuries to his shoulder after he suffered a setback last week, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Bailey has been out for a majority of the season. Although it's good news that examinations found nothing new, Bailey has yet to provide owners with any optimism that he can return to the majors quickly, much less produce in the Angels' bullpen. Expect him to require at least another two weeks before he's back with the big club, and given his struggles thus far, it could be longer than that.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Hindered by setback
Bailey (shoulder) has decelerated his rehab process after feeling discomfort following a bullpen session last week, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Bailey has already been out a month with shoulder inflammation and it appears he'll be sidelined for a bit longer following the setback. The 32-year-old reliever stopped throwing for a few days after the incident and says he won't return to the mound until he feels the pain has completely subsided. "It's frustrating but we have to take it one day at a time," he said. "Just listen to the trainers and doctors and continue to move forward." Look for Jose Alvarez and Blake Parker to continue splitting setup man duties for a couple more weeks.

Angels' Andrew Bailey: Eyeing bullpen next week
Bailey (shoulder) said he's on track to throw his first bullpen session sometime next week, J.P. Hoornstra of The Orange County Register reports.
Bailey has been slowly working his way back after landing on the 10-day DL with shoulder inflammation earlier in April. He tossed out to 120 feet without an issue, clearing the way for him to throw a bullpen "early, middle next week." If all goes well, the 32-year-old will be one step closer to rejoining the Angels bullpen, where he is set to play a prominent role in 2017.

Bailey was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to April 10, with shoulder inflammation.
Bailey had pitched three innings this season, earning two wins. The former All-Star had seen his numbers drop off significantly after a successful first three years or so in the majors, finishing with a 5.36 ERA in 43.2 innings last season. It appeared Bailey was positioning himself to be the setup man in the Angels' bullpen before the injury. Nonetheless, the Angels called up right-hander Daniel Wright to take his spot on the roster.
