  • Nationals' Moises Sierra: Clears waivers and heads to minors

Sierra cleared waivers Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Sierra had an unimpressive showing as a reserve outfielder for the Nationals this season, posting a .167/.217/.204 line in 60 plate appearances. He was jettisoned from the roster in order to clear space for 19-year-old phenom Juan Soto. Sierra could be back in a bench role throughout the season, but nothing in his track record suggests he'll have much fantasy relevance even if he ends up with a surprising amount of playing time.

  • Nationals' Moises Sierra: Cut from 40-man roster

Sierra was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Sunday, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

Sierra made for a logical DFA candidate with top prospect Juan Soto called up. He had limped to a .167/.217/.204 batting line in 60 plate appearances with the big club and hadn't shown the thump on the farm that you typically want out of a corner outfielder. The 29-year-old Sierra will now be subjected to waivers.

  • Nationals' Moises Sierra: Bangs out two hits Tuesday

Sierra went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.

He's been seeing regular at-bats in left field while Adam Eaton (ankle) heals up, and Sierra's responded by hitting .300 (6-for-20) over the last week with two runs and two RBI. Once Eaton is back in the lineup, though, Sierra's playing time will be reduced greatly, and the 29-year-old could be one of the first roster casualties when Anthony Rendon (toe) and Daniel Murphy (knee) are ready to come off the disabled list.

  • Nationals' Moises Sierra: Two hits in Tuesday's win

Sierra got the start in left field and hit fifth in Tuesday's win over the Mets, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

With Wilmer Difo needed at third base to cover for Anthony Rendon (toe) and Howie Kendrick still handling the keystone for Daniel Murphy (knee), the Nats are scrambling for options to play left field. Sierra's solid performance Tuesday likely earned him some more playing time in the short term, but don't expect too much production from the career .245/.297/.383 hitter.

  • Nationals' Moises Sierra: Officially recalled prior to Wednesday's game

Sierra was called up by Washington on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

In a batch of roster moves, Miguel Montero was designated for assignment, Adam Eaton (ankle) was placed on the 10-day DL and Matt Wieters (oblique) was activated from the disabled list. Sierra is expected to serve as a bench option while he is with the club after starting off 4-for-12 with one RBI and two stolen bases in four games for Triple-A Syracuse this season.

  • Nationals' Moises Sierra: To be called up Wednesday

Sierra is expected to be recalled by the Nationals on Wednesday, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Adam Eaton (ankle) is expected to land on the disabled list, so Sierra will be the corresponding roster move once the Nationals make it official. Sierra is not currently on the 40-man roster, so Washington will have to make an additional roster move beyond Eaton being placed on the disabled list. The 29-year-old Sierra has gone 4-for-12 with four walks at Triple-A Syracuse to start the year and figures to mostly be a bench option during his stint with the Nationals.

  • Marlins' Moises Sierra: Signs NRI deal with Marlins

Sierra signed a minor league contract with the Marlins on Thursday that includes an invite to spring training, MLB.com reports.

Sierra totaled 449 plate appearances in the majors between 2012-2014, but he's been stuck in the minors the past two seasons, and was even demoted back to Double-A for the 2016 campaign. He turned in strong results in 82 games with Double-A Jacksonville (.336/.414/.519) and figures to return to the Triple-A level to begin 2017.
