Mets' Vance Worley: Signs with Mets
Worley's contract was purchased from independent Kane County on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Worley was released by the Mets in June of 2018, but he'll now report to Triple-A Syracuse after he began the 2021 campaign in independent ball. The 33-year-old will serve as organizational depth going forward but could return to the majors at some point this year.

Worley made four starts for Triple-A Las Vegas, posting a terrible 13.50 ERA and an equally ugly 5:12 K:BB. The 30-year-old has a respectable 4.09 ERA in 667 big-league innings, but he hasn't been effective at that level since 2016. Even if he latches on with another team, there's no guarantee he'll earn major-league innings at any point this season.

Worley spent the 2017 season with the Marlins, splitting time between Triple-A New Orleans and the big club. Worley received a start in his previous outing Sept. 14, so his usage Monday indicates that he'll be ticketed for a bullpen role this week, with Odrisamer Despaigne likely slotting back into the rotation. Considering Worley had allowed 32 runs through just 26.1 innings over his previous eight appearances for a 10.59 ERA and 2.39 WHIP, it's unlikely that the right-hander will see much usage in high-leverage relief situations over the final couple weeks of the season.

Worley (2-6) allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- on eight hits and two walks while striking out just four batters through only 1.1 innings during Thursday's loss to Philadelphia.
This was a spot start for Worley and also his first since Aug. 29, so thankfully, it was difficult to turn to him in the majority of settings. He's now allowed 31 runs over just 20.1 innings through his past seven appearances, so fantasy owners are probably wise to steer clear of Worley moving forward.

Miami decided to push Jose Urena's start back by a day, so Worley will step in for the last minute spot start. Worley has struggled to a 6.35 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 11 starts this season, so it would be unwise to expect much from him Thursday. He also hasn't pitched more than 32 pitches since transitioning to the bullpen at the end of August, so he'll likely be on a pitch limit.

A surprising second-half surge has thrust the Marlins into the National League wild-card picture, and with Worley proving to be an ineffective fifth starter, the team will give Peters a look at least temporarily to see if he can provide an upgrade at the back end of the rotation. After conceding just one run in 13 innings during his first two outings of August, Worley regressed mightily to close out the month, delivering a 9.17 ERA and 2.15 WHIP while failing to escape the sixth inning in any of his last four turns. He'll now presumably be ticketed for low-leverage mop-up duty in relief throughout September.

Things won't get any easier for the 29-year-old, as he faces a Washington team that's scored the second-most runs in the majors this season.

Worley has now made five consecutive starts and posted a 3.08 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with two wins. Unfortunately, he's only struck out 11 batters and pitched just 26.1 innings during that span. Still, his current form makes him a serviceable option in cavernous leagues, and he's worth considering as a streamer in the right matchups in all setups. Worley allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one through four innings of work Sunday against the Rockies. He didn't factor into the decision.
After tossing a pair of quality starts in his previous two outings, Worley failed to make it out of the fifth inning Sunday. He still owns an impressive 2.12 ERA through three starts (17 innings) this month, but his 6:5 K:BB over that same span isn't doing much for fantasy owners. He'll make his next start Saturday against the Mets.

Worley (2-2) tossed six innings of one-run ball in Tuesday's win over the Nationals, allowing six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Worley was sharp in this one, tossing 64 percent of his pitches for strikes and inducing seven groundball outs. He was only scored upon by an RBI groundout following a Brian Goodwin extra-base hit in the third inning , but his teammates built him a comfortable lead before he completed the sixth. It was Worley's second straight quality start -- he's tossed 13 one-run innings over that span to lower his ERA to 4.82. He has hit his stride of late and will look to keep it going Sunday against the Rockies.

This was just the sixth start of the season for Worley, and he allowed three runs through just four innings in his last outing July 28 against the Reds. The veteran also sports an underwhelming 5.31 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 7.1 K/9 for the season, so he's far from a go-to virtual asset. However, shutting down the Nationals is an encouraging showing, and Worley projects to start consistently moving forward. That alone, warrants attention in cavernous fantasy settings. He projects to face Washington again in his next start, though, and this game will be at Nationals Park. It's probably not an ideal setup for Worley.
