  • Fabio Castillo: Inks deal in Japan

Castillo signed a deal in Japan with the Seibu Lions on Tuesday, Yahoo! Japan reports.

Castillo finally saw his major-league dream realized over two brief appearances with the Dodgers last season, but he was ultimately designated for assignment in September. The 28-year-old is expected to start in Japan, after he was used in relief for much of his career stateside while playing in the minors.

  • Dodgers' Fabio Castillo: Dropped from 40-man roster

Castillo was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Wednesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for top pitching prospect Walker Buehler to join the Dodgers. Castillo earned his first trip to the majors this season, but he made just two appearances, allowing a pair of earned runs over 1.1 innings. The 28-year-old spent most of his season with Triple-A Oklahoma City, compiling a 4.27 ERA in 84.1 innings.

  • Dodgers' Fabio Castillo: Added to 40-man roster

Castillo had his contract selected by the Dodgers on Thursday and was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Castillo is putting together a nice season in the Dodgers' minor-league system, most notably producing a 3.65 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in seven starts for Oklahoma City. The move is a bit perplexing since it doesn't seem like there's really a spot in the big leagues for him in the near future unless some injuries crop up, but this makes it a bit easier for him to come up if the need arises. Justin Marks, who was recently acquired from the Rays, was designated for assignment to make room for him on the 40-man roster.
