Arcenio Leon: Released by Detroit
Leon was released by the Tigers on Monday.
Leon played for both the big club and Triple-A Toledo over the course of the 2017 campaign. He struggled to deliver at either location, as he allowed nine runs over 6.2 innings in the big leagues along with a 5.24 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 26 games (22.1 innings) at the Triple-A level. If the 30-year-old agrees to a deal with another team, his role will likely be limited to organizational depth in the bullpen.

Tigers' Arcenio Leon: Lands on minor-league DL

Left-hander Chad Bell will join the Tigers with Leon heading back to the minors. Leon had been shaky during his stint with the big-league club, allowing nine earned runs over 6.2 innings while only striking out two batters in that span.

Tigers' Arcenio Leon: Gets call from Triple-A
Leon was called up from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.
William Cuevas was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Leon, who will get his first big-league opportunity at the age of 30 and after 12 seasons in the minor leagues. The right-hander has put up strong numbers with Toledo this season (3.15 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 17:5 K:BB in 20 innings) but owns a 5.94 ERA and 1.53 WHIP for his career at the Triple-A level.

The 30-year-old was impressive this spring, but he wasn't on the 40-man roster, so the odds were against him to break camp with the Tigers. Leon figures to head to Triple-A Toledo and could be an early option for the Tigers if they need to make any bullpen changes.

Leon will join Venezuela's bullpen for the second round of the World Baseball Classic, MLive.com reports.
Leon has been a pleasant surprise during spring training, and now he'll get the chance to pitch for his national team on a big stage. His earliest opportunity could come on Wednesday, when Venezuela takes on the powerful U.S. squad.

Tigers' Arcenio Leon: Impressing in camp
Leon has been impressing Tigers management during spring training, MLive.com reports.
The 30-year-old, who spent 2016 playing in Mexico, has hit 97 mph with his fastball and hasn't allowed a run or a hit while striking out four over 3.1 spring innings. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Leon has "opened eyes in the dugout." However, Leon is a bit of a journeyman who's never pitched past Triple-A, so he's still a long shot to make an impact for the Tigers in 2017.

Tigers' Arcenio Leon: Signs minor league pact with Tigers
Leon signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Monday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Leon spent 2016 in playing in Mexico with decent results, but the 30-year-old hasn't seen a whole lot of success in the U.S. since his time with the Brewers' Double-A affiliate back in 2014. He has shown a solid ability to strike batters out, but his lack of control and past inability to keep runs off the board will likely keep him in the minors.
