Tigers' Dustin Molleken: Returns to Tigers on minor league deal
Molleken has signed a minor league contract with the Tigers that includes an invite to spring training.
Molleken finally broke through to the majors in 2016 after being stuck at the Triple-A level for five-plus seasons, making four appearances out of the Tigers' bullpen. He will attempt to work his way into the discussion for a major league role again in spring training, but it's likely Molleken begins the year back at Toledo.

Molleken's career stagnated at Triple-A over the past few years, and even though he broke through to the big leagues in 2016 for a brief period of time, his performance was less than impressive. At 32 years old, he'll command very little on the free agent market and will likely act as organizational depth going forward.

Tigers' Dustin Molleken: Optioned to Triple-A Wednesday
Molleken was optioned to Triple-A Toledo Wednesday, Matthew B. Mowery of The Oakland Press reports.
Molleken was called up from Toledo on July 4, and pitched in four games for the Tigers. He posted a 4.32 ERA in 8.1 innings. Jordan Zimmermann was subsequently recalled to replace him.

Molleken was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
After Jordan Zimmermann landed on the DL due to a strained neck Monday, the Tigers bumped Anibal Sanchez back into the rotation. Thus, Molleken will enter the bullpen, likely in a low-leverage role. If he indeed makes an appearance during this stay in the majors, the first one would mark his MLB debut.

Molleken had a solid year with Triple-A Columbus, making 40 appearances and holding a 3.25 ERA in 52.2 innings. While his 52:27 K:BB ratio was good but not great, the 31-year-old provides the type of Triple-A middle relief help teams need to help fill out their rosters and minor league systems.
