Dalton Pompey: Released by Angels
Pompey was released from the Angels' Triple-A affiliate earlier this week, according to MiLB.com's transaction logs.
Pompey hit well during his time with Triple-A Salt Lake, slashing .367/.457/.467 over 35 plate appearances. However, the organization decided to part ways with him. Pompey last saw major-league action in 2018, when he logged 10 at-bats with Toronto.

Angels' Dalton Pompey: Lands MiLB deal with Halos
Pompey recently signed a minor-league contract with the Angels, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Pompey was let go by Arizona ahead of the 2020 season, but he'll serve as organizational depth for the Angels early in the 2021 minor-league season. The 28-year-old last appeared in the majors with the Blue Jays in 2018 but could be a candidate to return to the big leagues if he's able to find success in the minors.

Pompey appeared in 13 games with the Blue Jays over the last two seasons, but he was sidelined for a significant portion of 2019 with a concussion. The 27-year-old will look to take advantage of a fresh start in the desert.

Pompey was moved up to Buffalo as a part of the next step in his rehab assignment. The 26-year-old has had an unfortunate history of concussions over the years and is currently battling back from his latest one, which he suffered in spring training. In his four prior stints with the Blue Jays, he only surpassed 100 plate appearances once and failed to hit better than .230 in three out of his four seasons. Pompey, who is now out of minor-league options, will be deep on the outfield depth chart, if he's not DFA'd immediately upon activation.

Blue Jays' Dalton Pompey: Begins rehab assignment
Pompey (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday in the Gulf Coast League, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
He will be the designated hitter, playing in his first game of the year after suffering a concussion in spring training. Given the amount of time he has missed, it would not be surprising if this rehab assingment lasted weeks, not days. Pompey does not have any minor-league options remaining, so he will need to join the active roster when activated.

Pompey has been sidelined since being diagnosed with a concussion in late March, but he is in the final stages of his recovery and could begin a rehab assignment soon. The outfielder is out of minor-league options and hasn't received more than 400 plate appearances in any of the past three seasons while contending with a variety of injuries, giving the Blue Jays some extra incentive to take a long look at him this spring. Even if Pompey performs well enough to earn a spot on Toronto's Opening Day roster, the switch-hitting 26-year-old will most likely be in line for a reserve gig.
