  • Giants' Michael Reed: Leaves and rejoins Giants

Reed cleared waivers and elected free agency Friday but was immediately re-signed by the Giants on a minor-league deal, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Reed was cast off the roster to make room for Kevin Pillar after going 0-for-8 with six strikeouts in four games. He'll remain with the organization in a depth role but won't necessarily be the first in line when an opening clears up in the big-league outfield as he's no longer on the 40-man roster.

  • Giants' Michael Reed: Designated for assignment

Reed was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

He was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Kevin Pillar, who was acquired in a trade with the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Reed had gotten into four games for the Giants so far this season, going hitless with six strikeouts in eight plate appearances.

  • Giants' Michael Reed: Grabs breather

Reed is not in the lineup Monday against the Dodgers, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Reed is on the bench for a third straight game, suggesting he may have fallen behind the likes of Connor Joe and Gerardo Parra -- who are both starting Monday -- on the outfield depth chart thanks to his ugly start to the season (0-for-7 with five strikeouts through three games).

  • Giants' Michael Reed: Heads to bench

Reed is not in the lineup Saturday against San Diego.

Reed started both of the Giants' first two games after being acquired in a trade with Minnesota just five days before Opening Day. Gerardo Parra slides over to right field in his absence, with Connor Joe starting in left field.

  • Giants' Michael Reed: Starting Opening Day

Reed will start in right field and bat seventh Thursday against the Padres, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Acquired via trade with the Twins less than a week ago, Reed will get the Opening Day nod after Mac Williamson (hand) was somewhat surprisingly DFA'd. Reed posted a healthy .342/.453/.520 line between Double-A and Triple-A last year and may end up playing pretty regularly, with Gerardo Parra and Connor Joe likely platooning at the other corner outfield spot.

  • Giants' Michael Reed: Sticking with big club

Manager Bruce Bochy informed Reed on Tuesday that he would be included on the Giants' Opening Day roster, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Reed had been competing for a reserve role in the Giants' outfield, but he may find himself in line for the top job in left field to begin the season after projected starter Mac Williamson injured his hand in Tuesday's exhibition finale against the Athletics. X-rays on Williamson's hand came back negative, but he could still be looking at a trip to the injured list to begin the season. In addition to Reed, Rule 5 pickup Connor Joe is a candidate to handle work in left, but the limited big-league track record of both players probably means that neither warrants a look outside of NL-only formats.

  • Twins' Michael Reed: Traded to San Francisco

Reed has been traded to the San Francisco Giants for outfielder John Andreoli, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Jake Cave likely wins the fourth outfielder role for the Twins as a result. Reed has a much better shot at playing time with the Giants.

  • Twins' Michael Reed: Making spring debut

Reed (back) will start in right field and hit second Saturday in the Twins' Grapefruit League game against the Pirates, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

It marks the spring debut for Reed, an offseason waiver pickup from the Braves who is vying for a reserve outfield job. Reed's absence during the early portion of the Twins' Grapefruit League schedule due to the back injury likely hurts his chances of breaking camp with the big club, as Jake Cave probably has a leg up on the No. 4 outfield gig at the moment.

  • Twins' Michael Reed: Sidelined with back issue

Reed has been sidelined with back issues this spring. "We're going to ramp that up in some way over the next week. There haven't been any setbacks. We're just waiting to get him out there and get going," manager Rocco Baldelli told MLB.com.

Reed was sidelined for the final month of the 2018 campaign with a lower-back strain and it's not clear if this is the same injury or if the team is just easing him back into action. Either way, he's a long shot to make the final 25-man roster and should begin the season at Triple-A, so he has plenty of time to be ready for the start of the season.

  • Twins' Michael Reed: Claimed by Minnesota

Reed (back) was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage reports.

Reed only played in seven big-league games for Atlanta in 2018, going 2-for-7 with one run scored and three strikeouts during his brief opportunity with the club. He spent a majority of the year at the Triple-A level, which is where he'll likely begin the 2019 season within Minnesota's organization. Reed was sidelined for the final month of the 2018 campaign with a lower-back strain but should be fully operation well before spring training.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Done for season with back strain

Reed was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday with a left lower-back strain.

Reed likely won't need the full two-month window to recover from the injury, but shifting him to the 60-day DL will allow the Braves to open a spot on the 40-man roster for utility infielder Ryan Flaherty, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Gwinnett. The 25-year-old outfielder, who was among the first wave of players called up by the Braves on Saturday, saw action in just seven games and logged seven plate appearances for the big club this season.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Recalled Saturday

Reed was called up by the Braves as part of a slew of September callups Saturday.

Reed has gotten into 21 games for the Braves over the last three years, going 8-for-34 (.235). He'll serve as outfield depth down the stretch.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Sent back down to minors

Reed was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Reed will shuttle back to the minors after joining the big-league club prior to Tuesday's game. In a subsequent move, Chris Stewart had his contract purchased from Triple-A Gwinnett. Look for Reed to return when rosters expand next weekend.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Back with big club

Reed was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.

Reed turns 26 this offseason and only has 35 career MLB plate appearances under his belt. He is hitting an absurd .374/.473/.581 with seven home runs and four steals in 186 plate appearances at Triple-A after earning a promotion from Double-A earlier this summer. Reed has taken full advantage of a .490 BABIP and does not have an obvious avenue to playing time, so don't overreact to his minor-league numbers.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Sent to Triple-A

Reed was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

The move makes room for the addition of recently-acquired Adam Duvall. Reed had gotten into just five games with the Braves, going 1-for-5.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Recalled from Gwinnett

Reed was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

In a corresponding move, the club designated Danny Santana for assignment. Reed has yet to record a plate appearance for the big-league club this season but continued to swing a hot bat at the Triple-A level, going 8-for-21 with a 1.059 OPS over five games since being sent back down earlier this month. He will serve as outfield depth behind Nick Markakis, Ronald Acuna and Ender Inciarte.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Sent back down to Gwinnett

Reed was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

Reed was recently called up to the majors but didn't get any playing time against the Yankees during his one-day stay in the big leagues and will return to Gwinnett, where he can receive regular at-bats. Across 30 games with the Triple-A club, he's slashed .369/.480/.592 with five home runs and 15 RBI.

  • Braves' Michael Reed: Recalled from Gwinnett

Reed had his contract selected from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Reed hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2016 with the Brewers and is just 6-for-28 over the course of 15 games at the highest level over his professional career. The 25-year-old will provide a little extra depth in the outfield for Atlanta but won't make much of an impact in the fantasy realm.
