Noel Cuevas: Let go by Chicago
The Cubs released Cuevas on Thursday.
Cuevas was attending camp as a non-roster invitee but didn't have a legitimate chance to win an Opening Day bench gig with the Cubs due to the team's ample depth in the outfield. The 28-year-old appeared in 76 games with the Rockies over the past two seasons but saw the majority of his action at Triple-A Albuquerque in each of those years.

Cubs' Noel Cuevas: Signs minor-league deal with Cubs
Cuevas agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Cuevas will make $575,000 if he makes Chicago's big-league roster. It doesn't seem particularly likely that he'll do so, as he owns a .230/.265/.311 slash line in 76 major-league games thus far in his career.

A 27-year-old with just 76 big-league games under his belt and a 39 wRC+ in those contests was understandably not a hot commodity on the waiver wire. Cuevas will remain with the Rockies but is unlikely to receive any more big-league opportunities this season.

Cuevas (quad) was activated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.
Cuevas was placed on the injured list April 16 after straining his quad in his first major-league game of the season. Though he is now healthy enough to return to action, he'll do so at Triple-A, where he racked up a .377/.450/.698 line across 60 plate appearances prior to joining the Rockies.

Cuevas sustained the injury in his first major-league game of the season after being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque earlier Monday. The Rockies recalled Yonathan Daza in the corresponding move.

Rockies' Noel Cuevas: Likely headed to IL
Manager Bud Black said after Monday's 5-2 win over the Padres that Cuevas sustained a left quadriceps strain during the contest, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. There's a "high probability" that Cuevas will be placed on the 10-day injured list, according to Black.
Cuevas was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque earlier Monday and immediately entered the lineup, going 0-for-2 before suffering the untimely injury. Assuming Black's prediction comes to pass, Yonathan Daza could head back to the big club one day after being sent down to the minors to clear a spot on the active roster for Cuevas.

Rockies' Noel Cuevas: Recalled from minors
Cuevas was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and will hit sixth while starting in left field Monday against San Diego, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Cuevas put together a solid day at the dish in Sunday's Triple-A action, clubbing his fourth homer of the season while driving in three runs. His hot start at the dish for the Isotopes was enough to earn a promotion (.378 average with 14 RBI over 11 games) and the Rockies will immediately insert him into the starting nine for the series opener.

Cuevas was always a long shot to break camp with the Rockies given the team's current outfield depth. The 27-year-old made his major-league debut last season, slashing .233/.268/.315 in 153 plate appearances, and could return to the show in 2019 should injuries create an opening.

Cuevas was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
The Rockies' outfield was crowded even before roster expansion, but Cuevas (.331/.390/.538 in the Pacific Coast League this year) could draw the occasional start against a left-handed pitcher. That's probably not a big enough reason to care about him in most mixed leagues, though he might be worth the occasional rental pickup for deeper head-to-head formats.

Cuevas was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Cuevas had seen semi-regular playing time during his recent stint in the majors, primarily against left-handed pitching. He's been in a bit of a funk of late, however, as he's recorded just one base hit in his last nine games, and is batting just .194 since June 1. The Rockies will opt to have him work it out with regular at-bats in the minors, and recalled Ryan McMahon in a corresponding move to take his place.

Cuevas went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer Saturday against the Mariners.
Cuevas broke the game open with his home run in the seventh inning against James Paxton. It was his second home run of the year, and he has shown little offensive potential in 120 at-bats this season, hitting just .267/.296/.367.

Cuevas went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Mets.
Colorado's offense exploded for six runs in the third inning and Cuevas got in on the fun, driving home a run on his first double of the night then coming around to score on starter German Marquez's RBI single. With David Dahl (foot) on the shelf, Cuevas has seen a bit of a bump in playing time and has drawn six starts over the club's last 15 games. Through 90 big-league at-bats, the 26-year-old is slashing .278/.309/.367.

Cuevas is slashing .300/.344/.383 with a homer and four RBI in 64 plate appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Cuevas hasn't displayed much pop in the majors -- he has just two extra-base hits during his first cup of coffee in Denver -- but he's making contact at a very strong 87 percent clip. While the 26-year-old doesn't offer a ton of upside, he figures to continue seeing starts against lefties as a short-side platoon outfielder.

Rockies' Noel Cuevas: Receives call to big leagues, starting Sunday
Cuevas was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and is starting in right field and batting eighth Sunday against the Cubs, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.
Cuevas, a 26-year-old minor-league outfielder, is set to make his major-league debut Sunday after earning a promotion due to his impressive .333/.419/.571 slash line over 74 plate appearances with Albuquerque this season. Gerardo Parra will begin serving his four-game suspension Sunday, and Carlos Gonzalez (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list, so Cuevas could see extended playing time over the next few days. He probably doesn't warrant a pickup in most mixed formats, though.

Rockies' Noel Cuevas: Returns to Triple-A
The Rockies optioned Cuevas to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
Cuevas was competing for a reserve outfield spot and performed well at the plate this spring with a .364 batting average and .819 OPS in 33 at-bats. The Rockies outfield depth was simply too much for the 26-year-old to overcome, but he could see a big-league opportunity at some point this season if he can replicate his 2017 slash line of .312/.353/.487 at Triple-A.

Rockies' Noel Cuevas: In mix for reserve outfield gig
Cuevas is in the running to be a backup outfielder for the Rockies to start the season, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Cuevas is set to compete with the likes of David Dahl, Raimel Tapia and Mike Tauchman for one of the two remaining roster spots. Unlike his competition, Cuevas has never appeared in a major-league contest, so he's likely the longest shot to make the roster as it stands right now. The 26-year-old did hit a respectable .312/.353/.487 with 15 homers and 16 stolen bases in 128 games at Triple-A Albuquerque last season and could break camp with the Rockies in a reserve role with a solid spring.

Rockies' Noel Cuevas: Has contract selected
Cuevas was added to the Rockies' 40-man roster Monday.
Cuevas received a spring training invitation last year, but ultimately ended up spending the entirety of the season with Triple-A Albuquerque after failing to break camp with the big club. The 26-year-old hit a respectable .312/.353/.487 with 44 extra-base hits, 16 stolen bases and 79 RBI in 128 games for the Isotopes, and is expected to get a chance to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2018.
