Boscan was claimed off waivers by the Braves on Tuesday and was then placed on the DL at Triple-A Gwinnett, the Atlanta Journal Constitution's David O'Brien reports. It is unclear what the nature of his injury is, but Boscan was unlikely to be used at the big league level this year, so it's not entirely important. He was released by the Pirates after struggling in 15.1 innings out of the big league bullpen -- his first taste of the big leagues in a nine-year career in professional baseball.... See More ... Wilfredo Boscan: Released Thursday
Boscan was released Thursday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Boscan appeared in six games, including one start, for the Pirates this season, but found very little success, posting a 6.46 ERA and 1.43 WHIP to go a long with an awful 4.70 K/9. He was decent in Triple-A (3.75 ERA) this season, but it appears the Pirates are ready to cut ties and the 26-year-old will have to look for work elsewhere.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Optioned to Triple-A
A day after getting roughed up by the Giants, Boscan has been optioned back to Triple-A, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. Boscan pitched three scoreless innings Tuesday before the wheels came off in the fourth, allowing seven earned runs to the Giants. The 26-year-old righty will head back to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room for lefty Kyle Lobstein.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Smacked around by Giants in spot start
Boscan (1-1) was awful in Tuesday's blowout loss to the Giants, allowing seven runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in just three innings. This is the opposite of what the Pirates had in mind when they called Boscan up from Triple-A Indianapolis to make a spot start. He's not likely to earn another look anytime soon after this disaster.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Gets called up
Boscan was called up Tuesday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Boscan will make his first major league start Tuesday against Johnny Cueto and the Giants. The 26-year-old went 5-5 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. In a corresponding roster move, Curtis Partch was optioned to the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Could be recalled for spot start Tuesday
Boscan is a candidate to make a spot start Tuesday against the Giants, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. With Juan Nicasio on the restricted list and unlikely to rejoin the team for a few days, the Pirates will likely need a spot starter for Tuesday's contest against the Giants. Boscan is reportedly in line to start that day at Triple-A Indianapolis according to Berry, so he'd be a logical choice to get the call-up given that he'd be going on regular rest. While no move will likely be made official until early in the week, Boscan will be a name to monitor over the next few days. Boscan has not started at the major league level this season, but in nine starts at Triple-A Indianapolis this season, he has a 2.92 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Expected to join Pirates for Game 2
Boscan is expected to be recalled for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports. Boscan will return to the Pirates after being sent down to Indianapolis over the weekend. The right-hander has made five appearances for the big league club on the season, allowing nine hits and four earned runs, while issuing five walks and striking out six, across 12.1 cumulative innings.... Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Optioned to Triple-A
Boscan was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Boscan was hit hard in his outing Friday against the Angels, allowing two earned runs with four hits and four walks while recording just one strikeout in 3.1 innings. The Pirates also optioned Rob Scahill on Saturday and recalled relievers Cory Luebke and Curtis Partch.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Earns win in long relief
Boscan earned his first career win Monday after tossing four innings out of the bullpen against the Rockies. Making his second MLB appearance, Boscan took over in the third inning after Ryan Vogelsong was hit in the face by a pitch during his at-bat in the bottom of the second inning. Boscan struck out two and walked one, while holding the Colorado offense to two runs in his four frames. He also chipped in his first hit with a two-out RBI single. Boscan will continue to work in long relief for the Bucs as Juan Nicasio will take the ball for Saturday's game at Texas since Vogelsong's start was only spot duty to rest Nicasio for a few extra days.... Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Does well in debut Thursday
Boscan pitched well in his debut Thursday, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings. The Pirates have had plenty of trouble with their bullpen thus far and Boscan could settle into a middle-inning role. He was recalled on three separate occasions in 2015 but never pitched in a game.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Called up from Triple-A on Thursday
Boscan was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Boscan has been impressive in seven starts with the Triple-A squad, posting a 2.48 ERA with only four walks in 40 innings pitched. This was good enough to warrant a callup to the big leagues and a spot on the 40-man roster, although he'll likely fill a long relief role rather than a starting role for Pittsburgh. Left-hander Cory Luebke was optioned to Triple-A to make room for him on the major league roster, while Elias Diaz was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for him on the 40-man roster.... Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Throws six scoreless innings
Boscan pitched six shutout innings Thursday, allowing five hits and striking out three against Columbus. Boscan earned the win in his first start of the 2016 season for Triple-A Indianapolis. He also spent all of last season with the team, posting a 10-3 record with a 3.07 ERA in 126 innings. Boscan followed up that impressive season with a disappointing performance in spring training, allowing 13 earned runs and 17 hits during six innings on the mound. If Boscan can keep up his good work against his opponents in the minors, he could get another chance this season to show the Pirates that he deserves a bigger role with the team.... See More ... Pirates' Wilfredo Boscan: Elects to become free agent
Boscan will elect to become a free agent, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports. Boscan found himself with the Pirates multiple times in 2015, but never managed to record an appearance with the club. He was designated for assignment back in August and will now get an opportunity to sign with another team. In 126 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis, the 25-year-old right-hander recorded a 3.07 ERA and 1.39 WHIP to go along with a 86:45 K:BB.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates recall INF Pedro Florimon, option pitcher Boscan to Triple-A
The Pirates recalled infielder Pedro Florimon from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. Florimon, who was acquired in the offseason, will be making his season debut for the Pirates on Wednesday, as he is batting ninth and starting at shortstop against the Royals. The light-hitting infielder was batting .254 with two homers and 18 RBI at Triple-A. He is taking the roster spot of Wilfredo Boscan who was optioned to Indianapolis on Wednesday.... See More ... Pirates recall Jaff Decker; option Wilfredo Boscan
The Pirates recalled outfielder Jaff Decker from Triple-A on Friday, the team announced. Decker was hitting .275 with three home runs and 24 RBI in 54 games at Triple-A. Pirates option Wilfredo Boscan to Triple-A

Pirates recall pitcher Wilfredo Boscan; option Steve Lombardozzi

To make room for Boscan, the Pirates optioned utility man Steve Lombardozzi to Triple-A. Lombardozzi was 0 for 10 in 12 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates call up Jose Tabata, option Wilfredo Boscan
The Pirates have called up outfielder Jose Tabata from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned pitcher Wilfredo Boscan back to Triple-A, the team announced on Tuesday. "We were aggressive with Tabby in what we believed he needed to do to get back to the big leagues this season. He's working hard to make that adjustment," general manager Neal Huntington said last week per MLB.com. "He has played very well for them, and as important, he's played hard. He's running well again, and he's showing up for every pitch and getting after it. "We've been very open with Jose that while we hope his return to the big leagues is with us, he's a guy that may need to get somebody else's attention and have somebody come get him back to the big leagues. If that happens, we'll be happy for him, but if it happens here, that's great for us as well." In addition, Justin Sellers was transferred to the 60-day DL. Tabata is hitting .352 with four RBI in 28 games for Indianapolis. Boscan did not appear in a game for Pittsburgh after being called up three days ago.... See More ... See Less -

Michael Baron@michaelgbaron2H agoLook - Shota Imanaga was great for the Cubs tonight. But the offense for the #Mets had been pretty meager as a whole. They’ve scored 5 runs in these 3 games, 15 runs in 6 games on the home stand.

Michael Baron@michaelgbaron2H ago#Mets lose another heartbreaker. Great pitching but no offense at all. That was great play by the #Cubs in the end, it was close but the umps probably got it right in the end. Whether we like it or not. Score more runs, and it doesn’t come down to that play.
