Marrero elected free agency Sunday. After opening the 2022 campaign in the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball with the Long Island Ducks, Marrero resurfaced in affiliated ball with the Mets, who signed him to a minor-league deal in late June. He was added to the Mets' active roster on two separate occasions but served as a depth player in the infield, appearing in just five games and going hitless across six at-bats. The 32-year-old journeyman isn't likely to command anything more than a minor-league deal in free agency this winter.... See More ... See Less

Mets' Deven Marrero: Remains in organization
Marrero has gone 7-for-24 with four walks, six runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in eight games for Triple-A Syracuse since being outrighted off the Mets' 40-man roster Sept. 16. The journeyman infielder predictably went unclaimed when the Mets exposed him to waivers earlier this month, and rather than electing free agency, he opted to stick around in the organization as a depth option in the infield. The 32-year-old appeared in five games at the big-league level before the Mets designated him for assignment.... See More ... See Less -

The Mets selected Marrero's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Marrero will help shore up some depth in the Mets infield after Brett Baty (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Eduardo Escobar is expected to replace Baty as the Mets' everyday third baseman, while Marrero will function as the top backup at three infield spots. He could be in danger of losing his spot on the Mets' 28-man active roster once Luis Guillorme (oblique) is reinstated from the IL, however.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Deven Marrero: Goes unclaimed on waivers
Marrero was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. The journeyman infielder will remain in the organization after going unclaimed when the Mets exposed him to waivers Friday. Marrero received a brief cup of coffee with the Mets last week when Eduardo Escobar (oblique) joined Luis Guillorme (groin) on the injured list, leaving the team thin at third base. The 31-year-old appeared in three games before being booted off the 40-man roster shortly after the Mets elected to install top prospect Brett Baty as their everyday option at the hot corner....
