Ben Rowen: Announces retirement
Rowen announced his retirement Friday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Rowen returned to the majors for the first time since 2016 during the 2021 campaign, and he made eight appearances for the Angels. The right-hander made 20 relief appearances in the big leagues during his 12-year career and posted a 6.26 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 23 innings.

Angels' Ben Rowen: Clears waivers, sent to Triple-A

Rowen agreed to a minor-league contract with the Reds on Friday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
The right-hander spent all of his age-29 season working in relief with the Mets' Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate. His numbers weren't very good, but Rowen's control is above average. He could get an opportunity with the major-league team at some point when the Reds are pressed for a fresh bullpen arm.

Rowen is in the conversation to make the Mets' Opening Day bullpen, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
Carig commented that some figures in the Mets brass like the different look the 28-year-old brings to the table, which could bode well for Rowen over the next couple weeks. He struggled in his brief cup of coffee with the Brewers last season, but he was stellar at Triple-A in their organization (1.69 ERA, 10.6 K/9), so there is some upside to his game if the Mets choose to take a chance with him.

Mets' Ben Rowen: Signs NRI deal with Mets
Rowen agreed to a minor league contract with the Mets on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
The right-hander was stellar at the Triple-A level last season, posting ERA's below 2.50 with both the Brewers' and the Blue Jays' affiliates. His success didn't translate to the big leagues during a brief cup of coffee in Milwaukee, but the Mets will take a chance on Rowen and hope that his excellent control comes in handy at some point during the 2017 season.

Rowen was claimed off waivers by the Brewers on Thursday.
Rowen spent all of the 2016 season with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate before being picked up by Milwaukee off waivers Thursday. He posted a solid 2.47 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 47.1 innings with the minor league club. The 27-year-old reliever will now join the Brewers and remain with Triple-A Colorado Springs for the time being.

Blue Jays' Ben Rowen: Having fine season in Triple-A Buffalo
Rowen has a stellar 2.13 ERA through 38 innings this season at Triple-A Buffalo.
Rowen has only allowed a run in five of his 30 outings this year. Sunday, he lost his 18-game scoreless streak that spanned 22.2 innings dating back to May 4. The submarine right-hander induces a ton of groundouts, and the Blue Jays thought he might work well in their hitter-friendly home park when they acquired him off waivers last year. Outside of appearing in eight games for the Rangers in 2014, Rowen has spent his entire career in the minors accumulating respectable numbers for a handful of organizations. Despite his success, there has been no indication that the 27-year-old will be joining the big league club any time soon.

Rowen allowed one hit and no runs in one inning during Saturday's loss to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Despite being limited to one inning, Rowen's most recent performance was a step in the right direction. He entered Saturday's game with a 5.79 ERA, which is particularly surprising after ending the 2015 Triple-A season with a 1.95 ERA. In addition to his high ERA, Rowen is carrying an opponent batting average of .314 and 4.46 BB/9. Toronto currently has one of MLB's worst bullpens, but he'll need to get back to his 2015 form before being considered as a solution.
