Cody Martin: Announces retirement
Martin announced his retirement from baseball Thursday, according to his personal Twitter account.
Martin has accepted a job to become a Northwest Area scout for the Atlanta Braves. The 29-year-old righty will call it quits after accumulating a 6.33 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 42:23 K:BB across parts of three major-league seasons (58.1 innings) with the Braves, Athletics and Mariners.

Mets' Cody Martin: Inks deal with Mets
Martin signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday, Jacob Resnick of MetsMinors.net reports.
Martin had been pitching in an independent league for the Kansas City T-Bones prior to agreeing to a minor-league deal. His last major-league appearance occurred in 2017 with the Mariners, when he allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in two innings. Martin figures to serve as organizational depth for the Mets.

Mariners' Cody Martin: Outrighted to minors
Martin was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
The Mariners brought Martin aboard as the 26th man for their doubleheader Sunday against the Royals, but he was quickly sent back to the minors after he was lit up for four runs (three earned) over two innings of long relief in one game of the twin bill. He'll now lose out on his 40-man roster spot for the second time in 2017 with the Mariners determining the spot was better used on a higher-upside option.

Mariners' Cody Martin: Returning to Triple-A
Martin will head back to Triple-A Tacoma, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Martin was called up to serve as the 26th man for the second game of the Mariners' doubleheader in Kansas City on Sunday. He actually saw game action, too, but didn't perform well, as the three earned runs on five hits and two walks in two innings will attest. Martin will head back south down I-5 to Tacoma, where he's recorded a 3.78 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 33.1 innings with the Rainiers this year.

Mariners' Cody Martin: Recalled ahead of doubleheader
Martin was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma ahead of Sunday's doubleheader against the Royals, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Martin will serve as the Mariners' 26th man for the twin bill, meaning he'll likely be ticketed for a return to Tacoma after the pair of contests. The right-hander has yet to make his 2017 debut with the Mariners, but appeared in nine games (two starts) with the big club in 2016, turning in a 3.86 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 25.2 innings.

Mariners' Cody Martin: Set to serve as 26th man Sunday
Martin will be called up to serve as the 26th man for Sunday's doubleheader against the Royals, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
As the designated 26th man, Martin will only be eligible to pitch in Game 2 of the twin bill, and he will have to head back down afterward. Martin has made 14 appearances (four starts) with Triple-A Tacoma this season, posting a 3.78 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 33.1 innings.

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.
The Mariners purchased Martin's contract from Tacoma on Friday, but didn't end up using him in either of the first two games of their series with the Mets before sending him back to the minors to make room on the active roster for Erasmo Ramirez, who was acquired from the Rays over the weekend. The 27-year-old Martin has contributed a 3.81 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 28.1 innings for Tacoma this season.

Martin's contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Martin was designated for assignment over the past offseason, but he'll return to the big leagues after putting up a passable 3.81 ERA and a solid 37:8 K:BB in 28.1 innings pitched. He'll head back to the majors to provide bullpen depth, although it's unlikely that he'll see high-leverage situations given the plethora of arms ahead of him in the bullpen pecking order.

Martin was designated for assignment Wednesday.
With the Mariners acquiring outfielder Mallex Smith and reliever Shae Simmons via trade Wednesday, Martin's spot on the 40-man roster became expendable. Martin shuttled between Triple-A Tacoma and the big club last season, working mostly as a spot starter or mop-up man out of the bullpen during his time with the Mariners. The right-hander struggled to keep the ball in the yard, and though he finished with a respectable 3.86 ERA over 25.2 innings, Martin's underwhelming repertoire made him a rather low-upside roster option. He shouldn't find trouble landing a spring training invite from another club if he's unable to claim a 40-man spot elsewhere.

Martin was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Monday.
With the Rainiers' season coming to an end, Martin will head back to the major leagues to assist in Seattle's postseason push. The right-hander's 4.50 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in the big leagues this season don't jump off the page, but his 9.0 Triple-A K/9 and ability to spot start if necessary could prove useful for the Mariners down the stretch.

With the Mariners needing a starter for Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Martin is heading back down to Tacoma as Taijuan Walker returns to the big club. After throwing 20 innings (nine games) with the Mariners this season, Martin has a 4.50 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. He'll look to improve at Tacoma, where he owns an ERA and WHIP of 3.93 and 1.25, respectively.

Martin allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings in a no-decision Monday against the Yankees.
Martin was tagged for four home runs and he was lucky that all but one was of the solo variety. He allowed a 3.93 ERA in 103 innings at Triple-A Tacoma and likely won't be long for the Mariners rotation; expect him to return to either the minors or the bullpen as soon as either James Paxton or Adrian Sampson is ready to return, if not sooner.

Martin allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against the Angels on Wednesday. He struck out two and wasn't involved in the decision.
Martin's first five appearances of the season came out of the bullpen, but he got the call Wednesday with the Mariners looking to fill the temporary hole left in their rotation by James Paxton (elbow). The post-sell-off Yankees are up next, but Martin can't be trusted to pitch enough innings to qualify for a win even if he gets offensive support.

Martin will start Wednesday against the Angels, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
The expectation was that Martin would be available out of the bullpen Tuesday after replacing James Paxton (elbow) on the roster, but the Mariners reversed course, tabbing Joe Wieland for long-relief duty and Martin for Wednesday's start. It will be Martin's first start at the major league level this season and just the third of his career. He has posted a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 10 relief innings with Seattle this season.

Martin will return for his third stint with the major league club this season, replacing James Paxton (elbow) on the active roster. While Martin will be available out of the bullpen Tuesday, it sounds like he'll be an option to start Wednesday if he's not thrust into relief duty in Game 2 of the Angels series. Joe Wieland is the other candidate to start Wednesday.

Martin was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
Martin tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief Saturday, and with the Mariners determining that he wouldn't be available for at least a couple of days, the team will send him to the minors in order to clear room for fellow reliever Nick Vincent (back), who was activated from the DL in a corresponding move. The 26-year-old has pitched well during his five outings with the Mariners this season and could be in line for another promotion in the near future.

Mariners' Cody Martin: Pitches strong outing in long relief
Martin pitched 2.2 scoreless innings Saturday in relief of ineffective starter Taijuan Walker, allowing two hits and no walks as the Mariners beat the Angels, 8-6.
Martin did a solid job of keeping the Mariners in the game after Walker left after four innings trailing 6-2. This was Martin's third appearance since his latest recall July 30. He gave up a run in each of the previous two outings.
