  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Sent to Triple-A

Koch was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Koch was hampered by a hamstring injury for much of spring training, allowing him to register only four innings in three appearances during camp. Although he pitched well in his appearances this spring, the extended absence left him destined for Triple-A to start the season, where he'll be one of the Diamondbacks' top options when a spot starter is needed.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Will make spring debut Monday

Koch, who has been nursing a hamstring injury for much of spring training, is scheduled to pitch in Monday's Cactus League debut Monday against the Royals, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Koch will likely only toss an inning or two Monday, but the fact that he's now healthy will give him an opportunity to throw his hat into the ring for the fifth starter's role. It's more likely than not that the 26-year-old will open the season at the Triple-A level, where he'll likely rank as one of the Diamondbacks' top options whenever a spot starter is needed.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Tosses first career quality start

Koch took a no-decision after allowing one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts in six innings against the Padres on Sunday.

Koch followed up his impressive debut out of Arizona's rotation (five innings of one-hit ball) with another strong outing, turning in a quality start. The 25-year-old September callup excelled in five relief outings as well, even notching a save. Koch finishes the season with a 2.00 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in 18 combined innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Doesn't allow a hit in first five innings of debut

Koch didn't factor into the decision in his major-league debut Tuesday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on a hit and a walk while striking out three in five innings.

Koch had a no-hitter going through five innings, but allowed two Nationals baserunners without getting an out in the top of the sixth. Both came around to score in what ended up being a four-run frame, denying the 25-year-old right-hander what would have been a memorable win over Washington ace Max Scherzer in his first career start. He'll get a chance to follow up this impressive debut at home against the Padres in the season finale Sunday.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Scheduled to start Tuesday's game

Koch is scheduled to make his first major league start Tuesday against the Nationals.

Koch has pitched extremely well out of the Diamondbacks' bullpen during his first cup of coffee in the majors, so manager Chip Hale decided it was time to see how he'd fare in a starting situation. Koch will face the NL East champion Nationals, although it's worth noting that their lineup could be shorthanded if Bryce Harper (thumb) and Daniel Murphy (leg) are unable to play.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Notches four-inning save against Rockies

Koch threw four scoreless innings for his first save Tuesday against the Rockies.

Koch had just a 12.9 percent strikeout rate in the minors, but drew eight swinging strikes on 48 pitches and notched four strikeouts Tuesday. Expect Koch to remain in a swingman role down the stretch, but a few more outings like this will give the rookie a great chance to make the team next season.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Recalled from Triple-A

Koch was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

His 3.09 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A looks impressive, but his 12.9-percent K rate tells a different story. Koch should serve as a low-leverage innings eater out of the bullpen over the final month of the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Optioned to Double-A

Koch was optioned to Double-A Mobile on Monday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Koch will return to the level at which he spent the 2015 season as a member of both the Mets and Diamondbacks organizations. In 36 combined appearances, Koch compiled a 3.20 ERA and 1.213 WHIP across 95.2 cumulative innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Matt Koch: Added to 40-man roster

Koch was added to the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster Friday.

Acquired by Arizona from the Mets in the Addison Reed trade, Koch had a 3.40 FIP and 3.30 FIP at Double-A last year for the Mets and Diamondbacks' affiliates, respectively. He is not a major prospect, but Arizona obviously likes him and views him as a starter long term. Look for him to spend most of 2016 at Triple-A.
