  • Athletics' Aaron Brooks: Quality start Tuesday

Brooks did not factor into the decision in the Athletics' win over the Rockies on Tuesday, allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk over six innings. He also hit a batter and struck out three. The three runs off the journeyman right-hander came from home runs, as Ryan McMahon tagged him for a two-run shot in the first before Ezequiel Tovar slugged one of his two round-trippers on the night in the fifth. Otherwise, Brooks turned in a smooth, efficient outing, one that saw him get through his six frames on just 85 pitches. The 34-year-old has been a pleasant surprise with consecutive quality starts since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas last Wednesday, and with Paul Blackburn (foot), Alex Wood (shoulder) and Joe Boyle (back) all on the injured list, Brooks lines up for another turn Sunday at home against the Astros, a team he held to three runs over seven frames in his season debut last Wednesday.

  • Athletics' Aaron Brooks: Draws another start

Brooks is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Rockies in Oakland. After having not started in the big leagues since 2019, the 34-year-old Brooks was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas last week and impressed in his move into the Oakland rotation, tossing seven innings of three-run ball while striking out five in a loss to the Mariners. With three Oakland starters currently on the 15-day injured list and four more starting candidates on the 60-day IL, Brooks looks like he'll have a hold on a rotation spot until the Athletics' pitching staff gets healthier.

  • Athletics' Aaron Brooks: Solid outing in loss

Brooks (0-1) took the loss against the Astros on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five over seven innings. Brooks struggled out of the gate in his first MLB outing since 2022, allowing back-to-back hits to open the contest, which would lead to two runs coming across for Houston. However, the 34-year-old right-hander recovered nicely after the rough start, surrendering only one more run over the next six frames, which came on a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Pena. Brooks threw 21 of 28 first pitches for strikes and produced nine whiffs on the night but was unfortunately tagged with the loss due to Oakland's offense being stifled by Framber Valdez.

  • Athletics' Aaron Brooks: Added to roster ahead of start

The Athletics selected Brooks' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. Brooks will start Wednesday's game in Houston in what will be his first start at the major-league level since Sept. 13, 2019. The 34-year-old has posted a 4.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB in 43.1 innings this season with Las Vegas and won't make for an appealing streaming option.

  • Padres' Aaron Brooks: Gets NRI from San Diego

Brooks and the Padres agreed Wednesday to a minor-league contract with an invitation to major-league spring training. Brooks was lit up for eight earned runs over just 9.1 total big-league frames last season with the Cardinals, who officially cut him loose in October. The veteran reliever will look to right the ship in the Padres' camp this spring, though he faces an uphill battle to actually claim an Opening Day roster spot.

  • Cardinals' Aaron Brooks: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Cardinals designated Brooks for assignment Monday. Brooks and long reliever Packy Naughton were dropped from the active roster, which the Cardinals needed to reduce from 28 to 26 ahead of Monday's game against the Royals. In the case of Brooks, he'll also lose his spot on the 40-man roster, as he didn't have any minor-league options remaining. After agreeing to a one-year, $1.4 million deal with St. Louis in the offseason, Brooks earned a spot on the Opening Day roster but was hit hard across his five relief outings. He'll finish his time in St. Louis with a 7.71 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB across 9.1 innings.

  • Cardinals' Aaron Brooks: Contract selected

Brooks' contract was selected by the Cardinals on Friday. The 31-year-old impressed enough in camp to earn a spot despite his poor 6.49 ERA in 170.2 career innings at the MLB level. He's had far more success in Korea over the last two seasons, cruising to a 2.79 ERA in 229.1 frames. He could compete for a back-end rotation spot or serve as a long reliever.

  • Cardinals' Aaron Brooks: Invited to camp by Cardinals

Brooks joined the Cardinals as a non-roster invitee Monday. The 31-year-old righty owns a poor 6.49 ERA in 170.2 career major-league innings. He hasn't missed nearly enough bats, striking out just 16.1 percent of opposing batters. Brooks spent the last two seasons pitching for the Kia Tigers in Korea, where his 2.79 ERA in 36 starts suggests he may have figured something out. His strikeout rate remained a fairly modest 20.1 percent against lesser competition overseas, however, so he may still lack the ability to put big-league hitters away.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Captures win as reliever

Brooks (6-8) allowed one run on one hit with one walk and four strikeouts across seven innings during a relief appearance to earn a victory over the Mariners on Friday. The Orioles pitching strategy Friday worked to perfection, as Richard Bleier got through the first two innings and then Brooks finished the game as the primary pitcher. Bleier yielded a pair of runs in his two frames, but Brooks almost held the Mariners completely off the scoreboard and allowed the Orioles to win their 50th game. Brooks improved to 6-8 and has a 5.75 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 81 strikeouts across 108 innings this season.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Working as primary pitcher

Brooks will serve as the primary pitcher for Friday's game against the Mariners, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. He will take the hill after Richard Bleier opens the contest. Brooks has struggled to a 6.06 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with a 77:32 K:BB over 101 innings this year.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Falls to 4-8

Brooks (4-8) was charged with seven runs (six earned) on six hits over 2.2 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday. He struck out three batters and walked one. The first inning was one to forget; Brooks hit the first batter he faced, committed a throwing error and gave up a three-run homer in the frame. Brooks had a pair of good starts at the end of August, but he has mostly struggled since joining Baltimore on a waiver claim. In 11 starts for the Orioles, Brooks has a 7.54 ERA with nine home runs allowed in 45.1 innings. He could get a road start in Detroit next week, or the Orioles could also use Monday's off day to skip a starter, in which case Brooks would face the Dodgers.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Ends hot streak

Brooks allowed three runs on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts across 4.1 innings as he contributed to the Orioles 6-4 loss to the Royals on Sunday. Heading into Sunday's matchup, Brooks had gone the last 11 innings while only allowing one run and had picked up two wins in a row for the first time all season. That quickly ended as he gave up three quick runs in the first inning but was spared the loss as the Orioles tied it back up in the third before Brooks departed his start in the middle of the fourth. The 29-year-old now owns an ugly 5.81 ERA and a 74:28 K:BB ratio across 93 innings this season. He is lined up next to face the Rangers on Friday at home.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Earns third win

Brooks (3-7) allowed one earned run on seven hits and a walk while striking out four across five innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Royals. Brooks held the Royals in check, with his only earned run coming on a solo home run by Whit Merrifield to lead off the third inning. That was the only extra-base hit Brooks surrendered and he also allowed only two runners to reach scoring position across his five innings of work. He was in desperate need of a strong outing, as he's allowed 29 earned runs across 32.1 frames since making his debut with the Orioles on July 13. Brooks will look to build on this effort in his next start, currently scheduled for Tuesday at Washington.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Bounced by Boston

Brooks (2-7) took the loss Friday, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.1 innings while striking out two as the Orioles were routed 9-1 by the Red Sox. If there was a silver lining to this performance for Brooks, it's that he managed to keep the ball in the yard after serving up seven homers over his prior three starts and 13 innings. The right-hander will carry a 6.49 ERA and 61:22 K:BB through 77.2 innings into his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Royals.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Hit with fifth loss

Brooks (2-5) took the loss Friday as the Orioles fell 5-2 to the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out four. The right-hander wasn't particularly efficient, throwing 59 of 97 pitches for strikes, and the O's didn't even get on the board until well after Brooks had made his exit. He'll carry a 5.45 ERA and 56:21 K:BB through 69.1 innings into his next start.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Rocky start versus Angels

Brooks allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Saturday. Brooks served up homers to Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, exiting with the game tied at five after racking up 96 pitches in his five innings. He's posted a 5.46 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 64.1 innings between the Orioles and Athletics this season, adding a 52:18 K:BB. Brooks will look to turn things around a bit when he draws the Blue Jays in a home start Friday.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Getting third turn through rotation

Brooks is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Diamondbacks. Since Brooks had worked in a relief role for Oakland prior to being scooped up off waivers earlier this month, Baltimore has been steadily increasing his workload as the right-hander has transitioned back to starting duty. After tossing 32 pitches in his first outing with his new team July 13, Brooks raised his count to 56 pitches his last time out July 17. Expect Brooks to settle in around the 70-to-80-pitch range in his third start with the Orioles, which should give him a better chance of factoring into any decision.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Will bump up pitch count Wednesday

Brooks is listed as the Orioles' probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Nationals. After finishing out his time with the Athletics as a long reliever, Brooks was plugged into the Baltimore rotation for his team debut over the weekend. He no-hit the Rays for 2.2 scoreless innings (32 pitches) before bowing out of the contest, but Brooks plans to increase his workload even though he'll be returning to the mound Wednesday on three days' rest. He's targeting a 40-to-50-pitch count during the outing, which will hurt his chances of factoring into any decision.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Goes 2.2 innings against Rays

Brooks threw 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in a no-decision against the Rays in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. He did not issue a walk. He faced a limited pitch count in his first start with the Orioles after coming over from Oakland on a waiver claim, but Brooks was close to perfect during his time on the mound, with the lone blemish being a hit batsman in the first. Brooks will have to gradually add to his pitch count (32) over his next several starts to get fully stretched out. The 29-year-old righty lines up for a home start against the Red Sox next weekend.

  • Orioles' Aaron Brooks: Set to start Saturday's matinee

Brooks is scheduled to start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports. Brooks was claimed by the Orioles off waivers last week and will be stretched out as a starter after pitching out of the bullpen with the Athletics over the last two months. The 29-year-old hasn't exceeded 40 pitches in an appearance since June 8 and figures to face a limited pitch count in his Baltimore debut.
