Cantwell was acquired from the Rangers on Friday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.
The 26-year-old was hitting just .133/.188/.133 for Triple-A Round Rock and had just a .633 OPS in 54 games for the same club last season. He'll serve as organizational depth for Toronto.
