  • Red Sox's Jacob Dahlstrand: Returns to Red Sox on minor league deal

Dahlstrand has signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox, the Boston Globe reports.

The 24-year-old right-hander will remain with the only organization he's known, for an eighth season. Dahlstrand made eight starts in 2016 as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery, and the results with Double-A Portland (6.05 ERA) suggest he hadn't quite regained a feel for his pitches. He will likely spend most (if not all) of 2017 at the upper levels of the minor leagues.

  • Red Sox's Jacob Dahlstrand: Returns to Double-A Portland

Dahlstrand, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, made his debut for Double-A Portland on Saturday, Kevin Thomas of the Portland Press Herald reports. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out two in six innings.

Dahlstrand continues to work his way back from the injury, but after starts in the Gulf Coast League and at short-season Lowell, the 24-year-old is back on his development schedule in the Double-A Eastern League. A 10th-round draft pick in 2010, Dahlstrand is a late bloomer and not yet on the 40-man roster, but will continue to track as a starter for an organization whose upper-level starters have taken a hit in 2016.

  • Red Sox's Jacob Dahlstrand: Continues rehab at Lowell

Dahlstrand (elbow) made a rehab start for short-season Lowell on Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk while striking out one.

The 24-year-old Dahlstrand has made a slow slog through the organization, but had some scouting buzz after 2014 and appeared poised for a breakthrough season. After an impressive start to 2015, he underwent Tommy John elbow surgery and has been working his way back since.

Dahlstrand (elbow) is rehabbing with the Red Sox's Gulf Coast League affiliate.

He's made two starts since returning to action on June 25, fanning 12 and walking two over 8.2 innings and allowing just one earned runs. It's believed that Dahlstrand will head back to High-A Salem once he's healthy enough to return to the rotation.
