    Hill received an invite to major league spring training with the Nationals, The Washington Post reports.

    The 27-year-old last pitched in the majors in 2015 and spent all of last season in the Triple-A rotation, with mediocre results. Hill's lack of velocity will likely prevent him from ever being a regular in the big leagues, but a good showing this spring could put him back in the Nats' plans should injuries open up a spot in their bullpen.

    Hill was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

    He was designated for assignment last month, but will still receive an invite to spring training this year. The 26-year-old reliever managed a 3.75 ERA and nine strikeouts in 12 innings with the big club last year, and should once again provide organizational bullpen depth.

    Hill was designated for assignment Wednesday, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.

    The Nationals' signing of Stephen Drew became official Wednesday, leading the club to designate Hill in order to clear room on the 40-man roster. Hill, a 26-year-old righty, made six appearances with the Nationals last year, working a 3.75 ERA with nine strikeouts over 12.0 innings of work.
