  • Jon Moscot: Announces retirement

Moscot announced his retirement Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Moscot hasn't pitched in affiliated baseball since undergoing Tommy John surgery back in July of 2016. Across parts of two seasons with the Reds, the right-hander compiled a career 6.82 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 33 innings (eight starts).

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Outrighted to minors

Moscot (elbow) was outrighted off the major league roster Monday.

This was simply a procedural move, as Moscot went under the knife for Tommy John surgery in July and will likely miss most, if not all, of the 2017 season as a result. The 25-year-old has struggled mightily in the majors in his brief career, so he likely won't be guaranteed a spot in the rotation even once he's healthy enough to return to the mound.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Undergoes Tommy John surgery Tuesday

Moscot (elbow) underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.

He had been on the minor league DL at Triple-A Louisville with elbow inflammation for a couple weeks, and it appears that the worst-case scenario has been realized. Moscot will likely miss most, if not all of 2017, given when the surgery took place this year, but he should be fully recovered in time for the 2018 season. That said, he has a 6.82 ERA in eight big league starts, and should struggle to get a shot in a big league rotation upon his return.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Right elbow inflammation

Moscot was placed on the Triple-A 7-day DL with right elbow inflammation.

Moscot had lowered his ERA from 6.97 to 5.26 since getting sent down to Louisville, but had just 13 strikeouts in 29 innings over that span.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Optioned to Louisville

Moscot was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Moscot had another rough outing Sunday against the Nationals, allowing five runs on five hits over just 3.2 innings. That ran his ERA up to 8.02 on the season, and he'll now head back to Louisville where he'll hope to get things straightened out. In his place, the Reds recalled outfielder Steve Selsky on Tuesday.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Escapes with no-decision Sunday

Moscot (0-3) lasted just 3.2 innings Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three, but managed to come away with a no-decision in a 10-9 loss to the Nationals.

He hasn't managed to complete six innings or surrender less than three runs in any of his five starts this year, and with reinforcements on the way for the Reds' rotation, both from the DL and potentially from the minors, Moscot's spot is far from secure. For the moment, however, his next trip to the mound is scheduled for Saturday in a home game against the A's.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Needs another rehab start

Moscot will pitch another rehab start on Thursday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Likely to pitch one more rehab start

Moscot (shoulder) will likely pitch in one more rehab start, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Moscot threw five innings in a rehab start Sunday, striking out four while allowing a pair of runs on two hits. The Reds mostly want him to get another rehab start under his belt in order to get him stretched out further, but he could be ready to rejoin the Cincinnati rotation following the next rehab start as long as everything goes as planned.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Series of throwing sessions

Moscot (shoulder) had a throwing session Monday and is due to have another Wednesday. He's able to get his work in, but by the time he's done his non-throwing shoulder is sore, the Dayton Daily News reports.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Placed on 15-day DL

Moscot was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday.

Moscot began experiencing issues with his shoulder near the end of last month, and he'll now head to the DL despite the team's initial belief that the right-hander wouldn't miss more than a couple of days. The DL stint is backdated to May 3, so Moscot will be eligible to return as soon as May 18.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Will miss Tuesday's start

Moscot (shoulder) will not start Tuesday's game against the Giants, with John Lamb filling in his place. Moscot is not expected to go on the DL, however, and will be available out of the bullpen.

Moscot's MRI on his shoulder revealed no structural damage, and he received a cortisone shot. However, his hold on a rotation slot is tenuous at best, with Lamb coming off the DL now and other help potentially on the way soon.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Not expected to miss time, per Price

Manager Bryan Price said Friday that he does not expect Moscot (shoulder) to miss any time, C.Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Moscot reported that he was feeling shoulder soreness after his most recent outing Wednesday, but fortunately the ailment is in his non-pitching shoulder. As Price told reporters, Moscot isn't expected to miss any additional time due to his sore shoulder, so he should be back on the mound to make his next scheduled start Tuesday against Jeff Samardzija and the Giants.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Experiencing shoulder soreness after loss

Moscot (0-2) pitched five innings, allowing three runs (one earned), four hits and four walks while striking out two in Wednesday's loss to the Mets.

The 24-year-old was victimized by a two-out error in the first inning that resulted in two unearned runs. Despite walking four, Wednesday was one of Moscot's better outings through six career starts, and he lowered his ERA to a career-best 4.02. It's worth noting, Moscot felt soreness in his non-throwing shoulder following the game, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Felt soreness in shoulder Wednesday

Moscot felt soreness in his non-throwing shoulder following Wednesday's matchup with the Mets, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

The shoulder is the same one he had surgically repaired. The team had X-ray's done, and are hoping it is simply scar tissue breaking up. Expect an update on Moscot's status when more information becomes available.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Struggles again in loss to Cubs

Moscot allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits, walking four and striking out two while lasting just five innings in an 8-1 loss to the Cubs on Friday night.

Moscot (0-1) scuffled from the outset, tossing just nine first pitch strikes, and needing 98 pitches (55 for strikes) to cover five innings. The Reds have some quality young arms in their system, but they appear hesitant to bring them up at this point in the season, which may provide Moscot and his 5.06 ERA with more chances. We recommend you consider other options for your fantasy rotation.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Solid in season debut

Moscot made his season debut Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing three runs with a pair of strikeouts and a walk across 5.2 innings. He did not factor into the decision.

The right-hander allowed a pair of solo home runs Sunday, but he was able to limit the damage for the most part and actually came within an out of delivering a quality start. Moscot's role in the rotation is not a given this season, but he should get the chance to prove himself due to a lack of more seasoned options. Sunday's performance was a positive step forward, and he will face another tough test in his next start Friday versus the Cubs.

  • Reds' Jon Moscot: Starting on Sunday

Moscot (intercostal) will be activated from the DL and start Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Moscot will be running up against a red-hot Cardinals offense. He would have made the original starting rotation but for the injury. There's a reasonably high chance he won't end the year in the rotation.
