  • Diamondbacks' Braden Bishop: Part of Sunday's roster cuts

The Diamondbacks reassigned Bishop to minor-league camp Sunday.

Bishop was one of three players sent to minor-league camp as Arizona pared down its group at big-league camp to 34 with Opening Day four days away. The 28-year-old outfielder, who saw MLB action with the Mariners in each of the past three seasons, is expected to begin the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Reno.

Bishop signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.

Bishop spent most of the 2021 campaign in the minors and played well at the Triple-A level by slashing .319/.383/.533 with 12 homers, 61 runs, 45 RBI and 10 stolen bases across 78 appearances. It wouldn't be surprising to see him invited to major-league spring training in 2022.

  • Giants' Braden Bishop: Clears waivers

Bishop was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento after clearing waivers Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

San Francisco scooped Bishop off waivers May 17, only to designate him for assignment five days later when a 40-man roster spot was needed for starting pitcher Scott Kazmir. None of baseball's other 29 teams were willing to put in a claim for Bishop, so he'll stick in the Giants organization along with younger brother Hunter Bishop, a 2019 first-round pick who's considered one of the top prospects in the system.

  • Giants' Braden Bishop: Designated for assignment again

Bishop was designated for assignment by the Giants on Saturday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Bishop had only just been claimed by the team Monday. He'll be removed from the 40-man roster before even getting the chance to appear in a minor-league game. Scott Kazmer's contract was selected in a corresponding move.

Bishop was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bishop was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Thursday, and he'll now report to Triple-A Sacramento going forward. Bishop was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Thursday.

Bishop was sent down by the Mariners in late April, and he'll now be removed from the 40-man roster as part of a shuffle after Jarred Kelenic's contract was selected Thursday. Bishop went 1-for-4 with a run and two strikeouts in the majors this year.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Called up by Mariners

Bishop was recalled by the Mariners on Wednesday.

Bishop was optioned to alternate camp prior to Opening Day, but he'll rejoin the major-league roster after Jake Fraley (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Bishop should serve as outfield depth for the Mariners while Fraley is sidelined.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Sent to alternate camp

Bishop was optioned to the Mariners' alternate training site Friday.

Bishop saw plenty of playing time for the Mariners this spring, but he hit .150 with a double and an RBI over 19 Cactus League games. The 27-year-old has appeared in 39 major-league games across the past two seasons but won't make Seattle's Opening Day roster in 2021.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Not showing much this spring

Bishop is hitting .154 (2-for-13), with a double, three walks, an RBI and three runs across 13 Cactus League games.

Bishop has been given regular opportunities to make a case for an Opening Day roster spot in an outfield that's got two other talented prospects (Taylor Trammell and Jarred Kelenic) vying for a big-league opportunity, but he's done nothing to stand out. These spring struggles perhaps carry a bit more weight than exhibition stats normally would, considering they're a microcosm of the .128/.185/.151 slash the 27-year-old has generated across his first 94 major-league plate appearances over the last two seasons.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Back in big leagues

Bishop will give the Mariners added outfield depth after Jake Fraley (quadriceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Bishop has appeared in seven games this season, hitting .188/.278/.250.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Thriving in Tacoma

Bishop has been impressing with his bat during intrasquad games at the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

The 27-year-old still has a long way to go before hitting his stride against big-league arms, as his two stints with the Mariners the last two seasons have both resulted in sub-.200 averages and strikeout rates of 35.0 percent and 44.4 percent over 78 total plate appearances. However, it's been a different story in Tacoma, where Bishop has consistently been knocking the cover off the ball and recently belted a pair of home runs off top prospect Logan Gilbert. "I'm just using this whole year as an opportunity to keep progressing, whether up there or down here," Bishop said on a video call from Tacoma. "It's either progress or digress. I'm pretty happy with the work I've put in down here."

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Sent to alternate site

Bishop was optioned to the alternate training site Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was originally demoted Sunday before being brought back Monday when the Mariners traded away some players, and he'll return to the alternate site a day later. Bishop is 3-for-16 with three RBI and a stolen base in his seven appearances this season.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Rejoins big club

The Mariners recalled Bishop from their alternate training site Monday.

Seattle demoted Bishop on Sunday, but he'll be able to rejoin the big club one day later after the team traded away two players on the 28-man roster in Austin Nola and Dan Altavilla. The right-handed Bishop could end up settling into a short-side platoon role in the outfield while he's up with the Mariners.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Demoted to alternate site

The Mariners optioned Bishop to their alternate training site Sunday.

Bishop had started in just one of the Mariners' past five games and wasn't likely to see his playing-time outlook improve anytime soon, so Seattle elected to swap him out on the active roster with a third catcher in Joe Hudson. The outfielder went 3-for-16 over seven games during his stint with the big club.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Notches steal in win

Bishop went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a walk in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Rangers.

In the fifth inning, Bishop got aboard with a single, stole second and eventually scored on a Sam Haggerty homer. The steal was Bishop's first of the year, to go with two RBI and a double in four games played. Bishop will likely see time in right field while Dylan Moore (wrist) is out.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Sitting out Saturday

Bishop isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Rangers.

Bishop had drawn starts in the outfield in the previous three game and could see an uptick in playing time in the coming days after Dylan Moore (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday. However, he'll remain on the bench with Jake Fraley starting in right field Saturday.

  • Mariners' Braden Bishop: Struggles in '20 debut

Bishop, summoned from the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma earlier in the day, started in right field in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts while also getting hit by a pitch.

The start was Bishop's 2020 big-league debut after he was left off the Opening Day roster. Unfortunately for Bishop and his fantasy managers, the initial results were strikingly similar to the outfielder's brief 2019 big-league debut, when he slashed .107/.153/.107 over 60 plate appearances. Despite the inauspicious start to his 2020 campaign, Bishop is expected to see semi-regular opportunities during what is primarily a transitional year for the Mariners.
