Braden Bishop: Announces retirement
Bishop announced his retirement from baseball Friday on his personal Instagram page.
Bishop will hang up it at age 29 after appearing in 47 total major-league games, all with the Mariners between 2019-21. A third-round pick by Seattle in the 2015 MLB Draft, the outfielder registered a career .133/.188/.156 batting line at baseball's highest level.

Twins' Braden Bishop: Signs minor-league deal with Twins
Bishop signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Saturday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.
Bishop failed to make the Diamondbacks' Opening Day roster this year and hit .232 with two home runs, 19 runs, 11 RBI and seven stolen bases over 37 games at Triple-A Reno to begin the season. He'll report to Triple-A St. Paul after landing a minor-league contract with the Twins.

Bishop was one of three players sent to minor-league camp as Arizona pared down its group at big-league camp to 34 with Opening Day four days away. Diamondbacks' Braden Bishop: Signs with Diamondbacks
Bishop signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
Bishop spent most of the 2021 campaign in the minors and played well at the Triple-A level by slashing .319/.383/.533 with 12 homers, 61 runs, 45 RBI and 10 stolen bases across 78 appearances. It wouldn't be surprising to see him invited to major-league spring training in 2022.

Giants' Braden Bishop: Clears waivers
Bishop was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento after clearing waivers Wednesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
San Francisco scooped Bishop off waivers May 17, only to designate him for assignment five days later when a 40-man roster spot was needed for starting pitcher Scott Kazmir. None of baseball's other 29 teams were willing to put in a claim for Bishop, so he'll stick in the Giants organization along with younger brother Hunter Bishop, a 2019 first-round pick who's considered one of the top prospects in the system.

Bishop was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Thursday, and he'll now report to Triple-A Sacramento going forward. Bishop has been impressing with his bat during intrasquad games at the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
The 27-year-old still has a long way to go before hitting his stride against big-league arms, as his two stints with the Mariners the last two seasons have both resulted in sub-.200 averages and strikeout rates of 35.0 percent and 44.4 percent over 78 total plate appearances. However, it's been a different story in Tacoma, where Bishop has consistently been knocking the cover off the ball and recently belted a pair of home runs off top prospect Logan Gilbert. "I'm just using this whole year as an opportunity to keep progressing, whether up there or down here," Bishop said on a video call from Tacoma. "It's either progress or digress. I'm pretty happy with the work I've put in down here."

Bishop, summoned from the Mariners' alternate training site in Tacoma earlier in the day, started in right field in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts while also getting hit by a pitch.
The start was Bishop's 2020 big-league debut after he was left off the Opening Day roster. Unfortunately for Bishop and his fantasy managers, the initial results were strikingly similar to the outfielder's brief 2019 big-league debut, when he slashed .107/.153/.107 over 60 plate appearances. Despite the inauspicious start to his 2020 campaign, Bishop is expected to see semi-regular opportunities during what is primarily a transitional year for the Mariners.
