Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Stellar in Tuesday's win
Burleson went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double, a stolen base and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Angels.
Burleson has gone 9-for-24 (.375) over his last seven games, with five of his hits in that span going for extra bases. He also picked up his first steal of the campaign in Tuesday's win. The 25-year-old is up to a .272/.306/.437 slash line with four homers, 15 RBI, seven runs scored and five doubles over 108 plate appearances. He's operated in a strong-side platoon role for much of the season, but it's encouraging to note that two of his three hits Tuesday, including his homer, came against left-handed pitchers. With both Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbaar under the Mendoza line, there could be an opportunity for Burleson to see more consistent playing time, especially since he's been in the lineup against the last three southpaws the Cardinals have faced.

Burleson went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Mets.
Burleson cranked his third home run of the year in the sixth inning off Cole Sulser and also drove in a run on a base hit in the first. He notched his first three-hit effort of the campaign and his fifth multi-hit performance. Jordan Walker's demotion cements Burleson into a strong-side platoon role, but his .259/.310/.352 slash line through 58 plate appearances with three runs and five RBI doesn't offer a lot of fantasy appeal.

Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Favorite to fill in for Nootbaar
Burleson will receive starter's reps in left field while Lars Nootbaar (ribs) is sidelined, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
The team hasn't officially ruled Nootbaar out for Opening Day as he recovers from two fractured ribs, but a stint on the injured list seems very likely. It had seemed not long ago that Burleson might be on the outside looking in to even make the roster, but with Nootbaar and Tommy Edman (wrist) out, he could now receive regular starts versus right-handed pitching. The 25-year-old is 7-for-18 with a 0:3 K:BB in his first eight Grapefruit League contests.
