The 25-year-old southpaw was able to keep the ball in the park after serving up four homers across his last two starts, but there weren't many other positive takeaways from this performance. Allen tossed only 48 of 91 pitches for strikes, and he's been tagged for at least three runs in five of his six outings to begin the season. He'll carry a 5.46 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 26:11 K:BB through 31.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Houston.

  Allen (3-0) did enough for the win Saturday versus the Athletics, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four. It was a bit surprising Allen was even sent back out for the sixth inning, as he needed 84 pitches to cover five frames and his fifth inning was particularly laborious. The lefty was finally pulled after yielding a one-out triple in the sixth, with that runner immediately scoring and getting charged to Allen. The Guardians southpaw holds a 5.06 ERA in five outings and has managed just one quality start, though he still has a spotless 3-0 record.

Allen got off to a brutal start, allowing seven of the first eight batters to reach safely in the first inning and ultimately allowing five runs. However, the left-hander would settle down to blank the White Sox over his final three frames, allowing just two more hits, while the Guardians rallied to tie the game and get Allen off the hook. Still, it's a tough outing for Allen, who'd won his first two starts this season. His ERA is now up to 4.60 with a 1.34 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB through 15.2 innings on the young campaign. Allen will look to get back on track in his next start, tentatively lined up as a tough home matchup Sunday versus the Yankees.

Allen surrendered a leadoff single to the first batter he faced and allowed two baserunners in the opening frame, but he was able to pitch his way out of it before cruising through the next five innings. The lefty threw 20 first-pitch strikes and produced nine swings and misses on the afternoon to earn his second win of the 2024 campaign. Allen now sports a 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP after two starts and will look to keep that momentum rolling when the Guardians take on the White Sox next week in Cleveland.

It's the first time Allen hasn't lasted at least five innings since late June, and despite Saturday's stumble he sports a 3.80 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:17 K:BB through 45 innings since he rejoined the big-league rotation after the All-Star break. The only damage against Allen came in the third inning, a nice turnaround after he'd been tagged with nine runs and four homers in his previous two outings before Friday's quality start. However, the four walks tied his season high. The 24-year-old rookie dropped his season ERA to 3.65 with an 85:32 K:BB through 86.1 frames. Allen lines up to face the Blue Jays at home next week.

The rookie southpaw didn't get much run support, as Cleveland didn't even get on the board until after Allen had left the game, and while he kept things close through four innings he faded late. He's been tagged for four homers and 10 runs (nine earned) in his last two starts, both against less than fearsome opponents in the White Sox and Royals, and the addition of Noah Syndergaard (finger) and the eventual return of Cal Quantrill (shoulder) could have the clock ticking on Allen's time in the rotation. He'll try to turn things around in his next outing, likely to be a rematch with the ChiSox next weekend back in Cleveland.

Allen gave up just two runs through five frames before serving up a two-run shot to Salvador Perez in the sixth inning. It was the first homer allowed by Allen since June 15 and was the first time in his career that he was tagged with multiple home runs. The left-handed rookie fired 12.2 shutout innings over his previous three starts and still owns a solid 3.39 ERA after Monday's hiccup. Allen's next outing is projected to be against the White Sox in Chicago this weekend.

  Logan Allen's latest start Saturday wasn't as good as the 10-strikeout effort that preceded it, but it was his third straight quality start and gives him seven straight with three earned runs or fewer to begin his big-league career, his ERA clocking in at 2.76. He's throwing consistent strikes, giving him just 2.6 BB/9, and is capable of generating whiffs with all three of his pitches, resulting in a 12.7 percent singing-strike rate that ranks ahead of Cristian Javier and Corbin Burnes. Another deceptive lefty who works in the low 90s, Allen seems to be settling in even as he gains exposure at the major-league level, and particularly given the Guardians' track record with pitchers, he deserves the benefit of the doubt now.

  Logan Allen's latest start Monday was his best yet and offers the clearest hope that a high-end outcome is on the table. For the first time in five starts, he had more than a strikeout per inning, registering a career-high 10 in a career-high seven. His 19 swinging strikes were also a career high and were well distributed between his three most-used pitches: five on the fastball, five on the changeup, seven on the sweeper. He now has a 13.2 percent swinging-strike rate overall, which puts him in roughly the same range as Kevin Gausman and Cristian Javier even though he's not a particularly hard-thrower. His 11.8 K/9 across three minor-league seasons also speaks to his bat-missing capabilities. Hard contact had been an issue and could be again, but this outing should restore your faith in Allen's upside.
