Povich will start Wednesday in Baltimore against Atlanta, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
The Orioles will keep Povich around in the big leagues as part of a six-man rotation, though he may not be guaranteed any starts beyond Wednesday with Dean Kremer (triceps) nearing a return from the 15-day injured list. After being called up from Triple-A Norfolk last week, Povich underwhelmed in his first MLB start Thursday against the Blue Jays, yielded six runs on five hits and four walks over 5.1 innings while collecting just two strikeouts.

Povich's debut started well, as he held Toronto scoreless through his first two innings. However, he'd give up a three-run homer to Vladimir Guerrero in the third frame before the Jays added two more runs in the fourth in an eventual 6-5 defeat. If the Orioles return to a five-man rotation, Povich figures to head back to Triple-A Norfolk where he pitched to a 3.18 ERA in 56.2 innings this year.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Added to roster ahead of debut
The Orioles selected Povich's contract from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of his start Thursday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
Povich will be making his major-league debut Thursday as the Orioles give the other members of their rotation some extra rest. The rookie left-hander isn't necessarily guaranteed another start with the big club beyond Thursday, but he could certainly earn additional chances if he pitches well against the Blue Jays. Povich has put up a 3.18 ERA and 75:21 K:BB over 56.2 innings covering 11 starts this season with Norfolk.

The Orioles will recall Povich from Triple-A Norfolk to start Thursday against the Blue Jays in Toronto, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.
Povich joined the Orioles' taxi squad Wednesday and will now be called upon to make his MLB debut in Toronto, with his addition providing right-hander Kyle Bradish with an extra day of rest between starts. The 24-year-old Povich has spent all season with Norfolk, posting a 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP to go with a 75:21 K:BB through 56.2 innings across 11 starts. Given the amount of talent the Orioles already have in their rotation, it's unlikely the left-hander's stint with Baltimore extends past Thursday.

Povich holds a 5-1 record over nine starts with a 2.08 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 65:17 K:BB over 47.2 innings with Triple-A Norfolk this season.
It's a dramatic improvement from his numbers in 2023, when he registered a 5.36 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 45.1 frames in Triple-A. His 2.08 ERA and 65 strikeouts rank first and second in the International League this season, respectively. With both John Means (forearm) and Dean Kremer (triceps) landing on the 15-day injured list this past week, Povich could potentially be called up to the majors and join the Orioles' rotation.

Povich has a 3.70 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 24.1 innings over his last five starts for Double-A Bowie.
Even during this strong run, Povich has failed to complete four innings in two of those starts, but he also had a 13-strikeout performance and has struck out 17 batters in 11 innings over his two most recent outings. The 6-foot-3 lefty is one of Baltimore's top pitching prospects and could become a part of the big-league rotation next season.
