Malloy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. Malloy will head to the bench after he had served as the Tigers' designated hitter for each of the past three games while going 3-for-12 with a home run, a double and three RBI. The 24-year-old is providing a decent amount of power (three extra-base hits) in his first taste of the majors, but he's hitting just .188 with a 38.5 percent strikeout rate through 39 plate appearances. Malloy's hold on an everyday role could be tenuous, and he may be headed back to Triple-A Toledo if his playing time slips in the days to come.... See More ... See Less

Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Homers, drives in three
Malloy went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBI during Thursday's 7-2 win against the Nationals. Malloy's second career homer came with two outs in the sixth and broke a 1-1 tie while his seventh-inning double drove in two and provided the Tigers with their winning margin. The 24-year-old rookie, who was also hit by a pitch in his first at-bat, entered the game with just three hits in his first 20 big-league at-bats but has now reached base 11 times in 29 plate appearances since he debuted June 3.... Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Records first MLB home run
Malloy went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Rangers. While it was an ugly night for the Tigers, it was a great night for Malloy. The rookie delivered his first MLB hit in the top of the sixth inning, and it also happened to be his first MLB home run. Malloy added a single a few innings later for good measure. The 24-year-old is a promising prospect with some power upside, and he figures to see regular playing time at least for the foreseeable future, giving him an opportunity to show what he can do.... Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Added to roster, in lineup Monday
The Tigers selected Malloy's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Monday. He'll start at designated hitter and will bat sixth Monday against the Rangers in his MLB debut. The 24-year-old has slashed .253/.410/.473 with six home runs and three stolen bases over 195 plate appearances this season with Toledo. Malloy has made a full-time move to the outfield in 2024 after previously spending some time at the infield corners. The right-handed batter should receive at least semi-regular starts between the corner outfield and DH.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Set for promotion
The Tigers are expected to call up Malloy from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Malloy will join the Tigers ahead of their three-game road series against the Rangers. The 24-year-old will be set to make his major-league debut after producing a .253 average with six home runs, 27 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases over 45 games with Toledo this season.... Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Back in action Sunday
Malloy (undisclosed) will start at designated hitter and bat third for Triple-A Toledo in Sunday's game against St. Paul. Malloy is back in action for Toledo for the first time since May 3 after missing more than a week with an undisclosed injury. The 24-year-old outfielder has maintained a .279/.424/.462 slash line over 132 plate appearances on the season.... See More ... See Less -
Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Still banged up
Malloy hasn't played at Triple-A Toledo since Friday due to an undisclosed injury, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Malloy is "banged up a little bit" but didn't disclose any specifics regarding the injury. The injury could have kept Malloy from a chance at the big-league roster, considering Ryan Vilade was called up by the Tigers on Tuesday to replace Parker Meadows, who will join Malloy down at Triple-A.... Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Heating up again
Malloy is hitting .329 with a .424 OBP, five home runs, two steals and a 20:14 K:BB over his last 20 games for Triple-A Toledo. He had a bit of a slump from the middle of May until the middle of June, but Malloy has now had multiple red-hot stretches as well. Malloy started the year playing third base for the Mud Hens, but he has been playing the outfield corners over the past few weeks, clearing a path for Colt Keith at third base.... See More ... Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: On fire at Triple-A
Malloy is hitting .391 with a .538 OBP and three home runs in 20 games for Triple-A Toledo. A bat-first masher, Malloy has split time this year between third base and designated hitter. He has more walks (20) than strikeouts (17) and while his .490 BABIP is a clear sign he is playing over his head, Malloy is undisputedly in complete control at the dish right now. The 23-year-old slugger ranks third in the International League with a 198 wRC+. Nick Maton (-0.2 fWAR) and Tyler Nevin (-0.3 fWAR) lead the Tigers in playing time at third base, so a big-league debut could come sooner than later for Malloy.... See More ... See Less

Evan Woodbery@evanwoodbery5H agoWe're still awaiting word on Alex Lange, who left his outing on Friday with an injury. Hopefully it's nothing serious, as the best thing for the Tigers is a healthy, successful Lange in the bullpen. But there are financial ramifications, too...

Jason Beck@beckjason1D agoA day after churning out 13 runs on 19 hits, the Tigers loaded the bases on walks against Houston's Ronel Blanco in the fifth inning but have yet to step on the first-base pillow safely on a batted ball, as @bobwojnowski might say.
