The Phillies optioned Clemens to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday. He was up with the big club for three games while Bryce Harper was on paternity leave, but he'll now head back to Lehigh Valley as Harper rejoins the club ahead of Thursday's game in Cincinnati. Clemens went 2-for-4 with a home run in his lone start this week.... See More ... See Less

Phillies' Kody Clemens: Homers, doubles in season debut
Clemens went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double during Monday's 7-0 win over the Reds. Clemens filled the role of Bryce Harper (personal) rather admirably, earning the start at first base and contributing two extra-base hits. Following his double in the fourth, Clemens capped his day with a three-run homer over the wall in right center on a full count in the ninth to help rubber stamp the Phillies' win. Despite the performance, Clemens may not remain in Philly for much longer, as Harper should return from the paternity list in a few days, likely signaling Clemens' return to Triple-A.... See More ... Phillies' Kody Clemens: Getting start at first base
Clemens will start at first base and bat eighth in Monday's game in Cincinnati. After being called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier in the day, Clemens will get the first chance to fill in for everyday first baseman Bryce Harper, who was placed on the paternity list. The 27-year-old Clemens received 148 plate appearances with the Phillies last season, producing a .644 OPS with four home runs. Clemens will likely be sent back down to Triple-A once Harper is ready to return later this week.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Moves up to big-league roster
The Phillies recalled Clemens from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. He'll join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Bryce Harper (personal), who was placed on the paternity list. Harper will likely remain away from the Phillies for the maximum three days to welcome in the newest addition to his family, so Clemens' stay with the big club could come to an end before the end of the week. Clemens has produced an .841 OPS over 69 plate appearances at Lehigh Valley this season.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Sent to minor-league camp
The Phillies optioned Clemens to minor-league camp Sunday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. The 27-year-old was in the running for a bench spot on Philadelphia's Opening Day roster, but he'll end up missing out despite posting a 1.244 OPS during spring training. Clemens should receive a look with the Phillies at some point in 2024, but he'll begin the campaign back at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Back from illness
Clemens (illness) is starting at third base and batting sixth in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. Clemens has been sidelined the past few days by an illness but will return to the lineup for Sunday's contest. The 27-year-old has a .429/.556/.571 slash line through 18 plate appearances in Grapefruit League play as he attempts to earn a place on the Opening Day roster.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Scratched due to illness
Clemens was scratched from the Phillies' Grapefruit League lineup Tuesday due to illness, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He should be fine in a day or two. Jake Cave will move to first base and Cam Gallagher will enter the lineup at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Bound for minors
The Phillies optioned Clemens to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday. Clemens had been handling a strong-side platoon role in the corner infield for the past six weeks, but after falling into a 5-for-39 slump at the plate over his past 13 games, he'll lose his spot on the 26-man active roster. In a corresponding move, the Phillies recalled first baseman/designated hitter Darick Hall from Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Sitting Saturday
Clemens will sit Saturday against the Nationals. Clemens hits the bench against lefty MacKenzie Gore. Outside of a four-game stretch in the first half of June, Clemens has sat against every lefty the Phillies have faced this season. Even while getting the platoon advantage in the vast majority of his at-bats, the 27-year-old first baseman is hitting just .232/.279/.370. Alec Bohm slides to first base Saturday, with Edmundo Sosa starting at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Not in lineup Wednesday
Clemens is absent from the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs. Chicago is throwing left-hander Drew Smyly, so Alec Bohm will cover first base and bat sixth with Edmundo Sosa handling third base and hitting eighth. Clemens is 3-for-19 with zero extra-base hits in limited action this year versus southpaws.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Out of Sunday's lineup
Clemens is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets. Clemens has one hit in his past 21 at-bats and will take a seat Sunday for the second time in Philadelphia's past three games. Alec Bohm will shift to first base while Edmundo Sosa starts at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: On bench versus lefty
Clemens is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the A's. Clemens has a .533 OPS through 13 games in June and will head to the bench Sunday with lefty Hogan Harris on the mound for Oakland. Alec Bohm will man first base while Edmundo Sosa starts at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: On bench Monday
Clemens is not in the starting lineup Monday versus Detroit, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Clemens will head to the bench after he went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a strikeout in Sunday's 11-3 win over Washington. Drew Ellis will take over at first base while Edmundo Sosa will enter the lineup at third base and bat eighth in the series opener with the Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Sitting Saturday
Clemens isn't in the Phillies' lineup Saturday against Washington. Clemens is slashing .250/.318/.300 across his last six games and will get a day to regroup Saturday. While he rests, Drew Ellis will take over at first base and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Picking up reps at first base
Clemens will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Mets. The 27-year-old will make his fourth straight start and appears to have temporarily supplanted Edmundo Sosa as a regular in the Philadelphia infield, at least versus right-handed pitching. Clemens has maintained a .308/.372/.462 slash line throughout May heading into the Phillies' final game of the month.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: On bench for second straight game
Clemens is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers. Before taking a seat for Tuesday's 13-1 loss, Clemens had started in three consecutive games at either first base or designated hitter, going 2-for-11 with a pair of home runs and a walk. With Bryce Harper (elbow) returning from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and set to serve as the Phillies' full-time designated hitter moving forward, Clemens doesn't look like he'll have a path to playing on a regular basis.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Getting more work versus righties
Clemens will serve as the Phillies' designated hitter and No. 8 batter in Sunday's game against the Astros. Clemens has now started against four of the last five right-handed pitchers the Phillies have faced, and he at least temporarily appears to have secured the final spot in the team's regular lineup over the struggling Jake Cave. For the season, Clemens has cobbled together an unimpressive .160/.222/.400 slash line in 27 plate appearances, and he'll be a prime candidate to see his opportunities fall by the wayside as soon as Bryce Harper (elbow) is cleared to return from the 10-day injured list.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Out of Saturday's lineup
Clemens is not in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Reds. Clemens was called up Friday and went 0-for-2 with a walk against Cincinnati in his season debut. The 26-year-old is expected to serve as the Phillies' regular first baseman against right-handed pitchers, but he's on the bench Saturday with lefty Nick Lodolo on the bump for the Reds. Alec Bohm will shift to first base while Edmundo Sosa starts at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Recalled from Triple-A
Clemens was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Phillies on Friday. He's replacing Darick Hall (thumb) on the roster and could see a decent amount of playing time with the Phillies' corner infield depth being tested. Clemens struggled mightily with the Tigers last season, posting a .505 OPS over 56 games.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Kody Clemens: Expected to be promoted
Clemens is expected to be recalled by the Phillies, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. It could mean bad news for Darick Hall (thumb), who was injured during Wednesday's game. Clemens was acquired along with Gregory Soto from the Tigers in a January trade. Roger's son is capable of playing all over the infield and the corner outfield spots.... See More ... See Less

Matt Gelb@MattGelb5H agoAnother strong outing tonight for Sam Aldegheri at High-A Jersey Shore. He has a 0.41 ERA in his first 22 innings with 28 K / 6 BB. The Italian-born Phillies prospect has a cool story: https://t.co/cMXqUNBpRp

Scott Lauber@ScottLauber5H agohttps://t.co/nRjvg5AGsr “It was more just routine this time, having more days’ rest, just not being as sharp.” Zack Wheeler wasn’t in sync. He still allowed one run in a #Phillies win. From @PhillyInquirer ⬇️⬇️

Scott Lauber@ScottLauber7H ago#Phillies 2, Angels 1: Zack Wheeler had to grind through five innings. The Phillies struck out 18 times. Gregory Soto walked a tightrope in the ninth inning. There was even an earthquake. But they closed a 7-3 trip and have won 13 of 16. The Phils are 21-11, best start since 2011

Todd Zolecki@ToddZolecki7H agoPhillies 2, Angels 1. Zack Wheeler isn't near his best, but he allowed only one run in five innings. Bullpen did the rest. The Phillies struck out 18 times, their most in a nine-inning game since May 6, 2018. They go 7-3 on the road trip to improve to 21-11.

Todd Zolecki@ToddZolecki8H agoMatt Strahm will pitch the sixth for the Phillies. A lot of deep counts again today for Zack Wheeler, but he leaves with a 2-1 lead: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 106 pitches.

Scott Lauber@ScottLauber8H agoIt was a grind for five innings for Zack Wheeler, who gave up one run despite working many deep counts. Heavy on fastballs. Pitch count by inning: 27, 22, 25, 14, 18. Bullpen will have to get last 12 outs. #Phillies leading 2-1 in sixth, looking for a series win and a 7-3 trip.

Scott Lauber@ScottLauber11H agoA word on #Phillies lineup: To help players prepare, Rob Thomson, like most managers, plans out lineups a few days ahead. Two days ago, he told Turner he'd DH today (he has played every inning of every game at SS), Schwarber that he'd be in LF, and Rojas that he'd get a day off.
