  • Reds' Hernan Iribarren: Returns to Reds on MiLB deal

Iribarren signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday.

The 34-year-old declined a bit with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate last season, producing just a .674 OPS in 271 plate appearances. Iribarren played every position but pitcher last season, however, so he at least offers organizational depth all over the diamond for Cincinnati in case injuries strike the big-league club.

  • Reds' Hernan Iribarren: Reassigned to minors

Iribarren was reassigned to the Reds' minor-league camp Tuesday.

After spending six straight seasons at the Triple-A level, Iribarren surfaced in the big leagues with the Reds in the second half of 2016, but was never considered part of the club's long-term plans and was outrighted from the roster shortly after the season. He re-signed with the team on a minor-league deal in the offseason and will continue to function as organizational infield depth. Iribarren should play regularly with Triple-A Louisville, but given his standing as a non-roster player, it may take a number of injuries to the infield ranks before he receives another look from the Reds.

  • Reds' Hernan Iribarren: Returns to Reds on NRI deal

Iribarren agreed to a minor league contract with the Reds that includes an invitation to spring training, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Iribarren reached the majors for the first time since 2009 last season and played surprisingly well, batting .311 in 45 at-bats with Cincinnati. He'll return to try to garner a reserve utility role out of spring training, although it'll be tough for a middling 32-year-old to swipe a 40-man roster spot while the Reds are trying to rebuild with younger pieces.

  • Reds' Hernan Iribarren: Sent outright to Triple-A on Friday

Iribarren was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Iribarren was solid in his first taste of the majors since 2009, but he doesn't fit into the Reds plans for the future. He'll likely spend more time as organizational depth piece as he has the past few years.

  • Reds' Hernan Iribarren: Called up by Cincinnati

Iribarren was promoted from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Iribarren last saw MLB action in 2009, appearing in 12 games for the Brewers. He's spent the seven seasons since at the Triple-A level -- four in the Pacific Coast League, and the three most recent with Louisville in the International league. The 32-year-old has played in more than 1,250 minor league games, and although he is well past the prospect stage, the Reds will use him as an extra left-handed bat off the bench.
