The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to trade guard Kendall Marshall to the Utah Jazz in exchange for center Tibor Pleiss, two second-round picks and cash, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Jazz reportedly plan to waive Marshall before his $2 million contract for next season becomes guaranteed.

For the Sixers, this is another Sam Hinkie-esque move from new general manager Bryan Colangelo. Philadelphia signed point guards Sergio Rodriguez and Jerryd Bayless this summer, and it plans to use rookie Ben Simmons as a de facto point guard at least some of the time, so Marshall was not in line to play a significant role. Now more than 19 months removed from tearing his ACL as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks, Marshall should get a chance elsewhere.

In exchange for helping Utah save some money, the Sixers will get a couple more draft picks and a look at a 7-foot-2 center who was trying to extend his range to the 3-point line at summer league. It is unlikely, though, that Pleiss will have much of an opportunity to play in Philadelphia -- as you have probably heard a million times this summer, there is already a serious logjam in the frontcourt. It would not be a surprise if the Sixers waived him.

From the Jazz's perspective, this is purely a salary dump. Pleiss had $3 million guaranteed for this season and $500,000 of his $3.1 million salary guaranteed for 2017-18. Presumably, he was not in Utah's plans and the front office decided this was worth it to clear a roster spot.
