Kobe a game-time decision Wednesday
Kobe Bryant, SG LAL
News: According to the team's official Web site, Lakers G Kobe Bryant (ankle) will be a game-time decision for Wednesday night's game against Utah. Coach Phil Jackson said Tuesday afternoon that it will depend on how Bryant feels Wednesday. Its really up to him, said Phil Jackson. If he feels like he can play, hell play.
Analysis: Bryant isn't sure if he'll play in this weekend's NBA All-Star Game in Dallas because of his sore left ankle. "If I'm not able to play, I won't play. But [if] I'm healthy, I will," he said. Bryant said he can't push off on his left foot. "I can't move to play. Can't go." The Lakers, as well as Byrant himself, could choose to play it safe and use the extra rest to have him ready to go for the first game following the All-Star break. Obviously, Fantasy owners need to continue to keep close tabs on his progress. We'll have you updated each step of the way. Profile
Gallinari injures forearm Tuesday
Danilo Gallinari, SF NY
News: Knicks F Danilo Gallinari injured his right forearm in a third-quarter fall on Tuesday night at home against the Kings. The sharp shooter threw up an air ball on his first free throw afterward and then shot the second left-handed and missed before leaving the game for good. X-rays on Gallinari's forearm were negative. He finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds and went 1 of 4 from long range.
Analysis: Gallinari is averaging 11.8 points, 7.8 boards and two threes per game over his last five. New York has no more remaining games before the All-Star break but stay tuned to whether or not Gallinari can play in the three-point shooting contest. That should give you an indication if hell be healthy upon his return after the break. He is normally a solid Fantasy play in deeper leagues. Profile
Harris ruled out for Tuesday night
Devin Harris, PG NJ
News: According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Nets G Devin Harris (shoulder) has been ruled out for Tuesday night's game in Cleveland. Harris had said Tuesday afternoon that he "probably" would not play against the Cavaliers. Harris has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder and remains day-to-day.
Analysis: Harris will likely be a game-time decision for Wednesday's game as well. Its the same shoulder Harris injured last year that forced him to miss seven games. He doesn't think it is nearly as bad, however, and is expecting to be back fairly soon. He was on his best run of the season prior to the injury and is averaging 19.3 points and 9.3 assists in four February games since returning from his wrist injury and looks to be in for a strong second half if he can stay healthy after posting numbers below his expectations in the first half. Profile
Ellis injury not too serious
Monta Ellis, PG GS
News: According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Monta Ellis is not overly concerned with the knee injury he suffered in Monday's game against Dallas. Ellis appeared to be in a lot of pain, rolling around after he sprained knee while driving through the lane with just under four minutes left in the game. "It was really scary, but it's just a little sore," said Ellis. "It's not as bad as it looked or as I made it seem." According to the league's official Web site, an MRI revealed a mild knee sprain.
Analysis: Ellis had the same knee surgically repaired in high school. His status for Wednesday's game against the L.A. Clippers remains questionable, but it does appear that he has averted a serious injury which is obviously great news for his Fantasy owners. The Warriors have one game remaining prior to the All-Star break and we expect Ellis to be a game-time decision. Profile
Iverson out through the break
Allen Iverson, SG PHI
News: According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Allen Iverson will miss Tuesday's game against Minnesota and Wednesday's game against Toronto, putting him out through the All-Star break. Iverson has missed the 76ers' last three games to be with his 3-year-old daughter in Atlanta, who is dealing with health issues.
Analysis: Coach Eddie Jordan has said there is still no timetable for Iverson. There are reports that say he could still play in Sunday's All-Star game if his daughter's health improves, but his status for Fantasy Week 17 (Feb. 15-21) remains questionable. Profile
Ailing Odom probable for Tuesday
Lamar Odom, PF LAL
News: According to the team's official Web site, Lakers F Lamar Odom missed practice Tuesday to undergo an MRI and CT scan on his sore left foot. Both results came back negative and he is listed as probable for Wednesday's game in Utah.
Analysis: This is great news for Odom's Fantasy owners, as he will get another chance to fill in for injured Andrew Bynum against the Jazz after the center was ruled out through the All-Star break. Expect him to post another game like the 16-point, 10-rebound effort he managed Monday against San Antonio in Bynum's absence. Profile
Bynum out until after break
Andrew Bynum, C LAL
News: Lakers C Andrew Bynum did not practice on Tuesday due to his nagging hip and knee injuries and coach Phil Jackson said after practice that he would not be available to play on Wednesday at Utah, reports the team's official Web site.
Analysis: With the Lakers having no more games remaining until after the All-Star break, Bynum's first half of the season is over now. Over 50 games, Bynum averaged 15.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and half a steal per night. He is a solid Fantasy center for use in all leagues, when healthy. Stay tuned for news to follow but most indications point to him being healthy to begin the second half of the year. Profile
Wade takes elbow to the nose
Dwyane Wade, SG MIA
News: Dwyane Wade took an elbow to the nose in the opening minutes, and the Miami Heat spent the rest of the night paying back the Houston Rockets. Eager to snap a five-game losing streak, the Heat raced to their largest halftime lead of the season Tuesday night and beat short-handed Houston 99-66. Wade finished with 17 points, seven assists, five steals and one sore nose. He sat out the fourth quarter and was also on the bench for a breather to start the second period.
Analysis: Wade is a must-start Fantasy option, as always. Miami plays again on Wednesday in Atlanta but we dont believe this nose injury is going to keep him out. Profile
Marion forced to sit Tuesday
Shawn Marion, PF DAL
News: Mavericks SF Shawn Marion did not play in Tuesday's loss to the Nuggets due to tightness in his lower back.
Analysis: Marion is averaging 11 points and 6.6 rebounds over his last five games. He is only a viable Fantasy option in deeper leagues. Profile
Head quiet in limited action
Luther Head, PG IND
News: Pacers PG Luther Head played only six minutes against the Bulls on Tuesday after being sidelined with a viral infection. He missed his only shot and finished with zero points. He had missed the Pacers' previous two games.
Analysis: Head is averaging 8.5 points and 1.7 assists for the season. Even when healthy his value exists in only the deepest of Fantasy leagues Profile
Smith contributes in rout
J.R. Smith, SG DEN
News: Nuggets SG J.R. Smith scored 12 points in Denver's rout of Dallas on Tuesday. In 24 minutes he shot 5 of 11 from the field, 2 of 4 from 3-point range. He added three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Analysis: Smith appears to have rebounded from a bit of an off-month in January. In five February games he's averaging 16.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals. Smith is a very talented player, but there just aren't enough shots to go around in Denver. He is a solid No. 4 Fantasy guard. Profile
Chalmers out again for Heat
Mario Chalmers, PG MIA
News: Heat PG Mario Chalmers (thumb) did not play in Tuesdays game against the Rockets. He has missed six straight games due to a torn ligament in his thumb.
Analysis: Even when healthy, coming off the bench since the Heat acquired Rafer Alston has reduced Chalmers minutes and production. He is not a viable Fantasy option at this time. Profile
Tough shooting night for Robinson
Nate Robinson, PG NY
News: Knicks PG Nate Robinson struggled with his shot against the Kings on Tuesday, making just 4 of 15 attempts from the floor, only 1 of 6 from 3-point range. He finished with 11 points, four assists and one steal.
Analysis: Robinson is playing his best basketball of the season in February, averaging 18.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists in four games this month. His value has never been higher, and he has become a viable option in all Fantasy leagues. At least while hes hot. Profile
Another double-double for Andersen
Chris Andersen, PF DEN
News: Nuggets PF Chris Andersen recorded a double-double against the Mavericks on Tuesday, his second in three games. He finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes. He added one assists, two steals and one block.
Analysis: Andersen is playing well of late. Hes averaging 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks over his last five games, scoring at least 10 points three times, recording double-doubles twice. Not sure whats gotten into The Birdman, but take advantage of him, as hes actually playing like a viable Fantasy option. Profile
Afflalo plays depite ankle injury
Arron Afflalo, SG DEN
News: Nuggets SG Aaron Afflalo shrugged off an ankle injury to score eight points Tuesday against the Mavericks. In 23 minutes he shot 2 of 7 from the field, 2 of 2 from 3-point range. He also grabbed four rebounds.
Analysis: Prior to injuring his ankle Saturday against the Jazz, Afflalo was scoring on a consistent basis. Hed reached double figures in five straight games, and seven of eight. Once his ankle is healthy again he will be a suitable Fantasy option in deeper leagues. Profile
Billups returns for Nuggets
Chauncey Billups, PG DEN
News: Nuggets PG Chauncey Billups returned to the lineup Tuesday against the Mavericks after sitting out a game due to sprains in both of his ankles. He finished with 16 points, one rebound, six assists and three steals. He played 28 minutes, shooting 6 of 8 from the field, including 3 of 5 from downtown.
Analysis: Billups return should be a relief for Fantasy owners. After averaging a season-best 24.2 points in January, he started February off averaging 24.3 points in three games prior to missing Saturdays game due to sore ankles. The All-Star break should give him an opportunity to get healthy, and begin the second half of the season as a No. 1 Fantasy guard. Profile
