Magic's Nikola Vucevic: Still believes he'll start at center in 2016-17
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Vucevic recently told Sirius XM NBA Radio that he expects to start at center for the Magic during the upcoming season. "I don't expect [my starting role] to change. I think I have proven I am definitely a starter in this league and I believe one of the best centers in this league," Vucevic said. "I don't believe there is any reason for me to come off the bench. I have spoken to the Magic about it. They know that. That's no disrespect to Bismack [Biyombo] and he proved a lot last season and had a great playoffs. But I believe I will still be a starter and one of the main guys on the team going forward as well."

The offseason signing of Biyombo to a four-year, $72 million contract would seem to pose a legitimate threat to Vucevic's starting role, but the 25-year-old continues to maintain a positive outlook, despite trade rumors circulating around him. Biyombo brings more to the table than Vucevic as a rim protector and defensive presence, attributes that the Magic were sorely lacking at the back end a season ago, so even if he continues to serve in a bench role with his new team, there's still a good chance Biyombo will be used heavily. If that's the case, Vucevic's minutes from last season (31.3 per game) would almost certainly go down, and his scoring (18.2 points per game) and rebound outputs (8.9 rebounds per game) could head in a similar direction. The Magic should officially name their starting center in training camp, but no matter how that situation shakes out, Vucevic's fantasy value will take a hit so long as Biyombo remains healthy and available.

Magic's Nikola Vucevic: On the outs for starting role?
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Coach Frank Vogel recently indicated both Vucevic and Bismack Biyombo would see plenty of time at center during the upcoming season, but wouldn't commit to either player in a starting role, Cody Taylor of Basketball Insiders reports.

During his tenure with the Pacers, new Magic coach Frank Vogel prioritized defensive prowess first and foremost with his starting centers, and while Vucevic is a more skilled low-post threat than the likes of Roy Hibbert and Ian Mahinmi, his shortcomings on the other side of the court could make him an ill fit on a retooled Orlando roster. The team's decision to sign Bismack Biyombo, a relentless rebounder and rim-protecting center, to a four-year, $72 million contract this offseason would seem to suggest that even if he continues to start for the Magic, Vucevic will almost certainly see a decline in the 31.3 minutes per game he averaged a season ago. As one of the top-scoring centers in the league both of the past two seasons, Vucevic would still have plenty of appeal around the league, so it's conceivable the Magic could explore trading him in order to calibrate the roster according to Vogel's preferences.

Magic's Nikola Vucevic: Scores 17 points in 20 minutes during season finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Nikola Vucevic (leg) managed 17 points (8-13 FG, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, and one assist in 20 minutes during the Orlando Magic 's 117-103 loss to the Hornets on Wednesday.

Vucevic missed Monday's matchup with Milwaukee due to a right leg bruise, but he was cleared to return for the Magic's season finale. Vucevic played just 20 minutes, but turned in a solid statistical effort in his limited time. Vucevic continues to raise his level of play on offense, but he still has much to improve on the other end if Orlando is truly going to fight for a playoff spot in 2016-17.

Magic's Nikola Vucevic: Will start Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Nikola Vucevic (leg) will play and start in Wednesday's matchup with the Hornets, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Vucevic missed Orlando's previous contest against the Bucks, and was considered questionable heading into Wednesday evening. However, barring any setbacks he is listed to start in Orlando's season finale. While he will play and have an favorable matchup, the Orlando Magic could have a short leash with him in order to avoid suffering a more serious injury.

Magic's Nikola Vucevic: Expects to play in finale
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Vucevic (leg) said he expects to play in Wednesday's season finale against the Hornets, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Vucevic missed Monday's game against the Bucks with a leg contusion, but after going through shootaround Wednesday morning, he's on course to return as the Magic close out the regular season. Assuming Vucevic plays, it's unclear whether he'll be reinserted into the starting lineup or come off the bench behind Dewayne Dedmon.
